Yes. But the "quick" (5 minute) grits are significantly better than instant grits.

Consistency is much better with the regular.

Used stoneground grits the other night with roasted red bell pepper, lots of scallions, a little cream and some aged cheddar. They were outstanding and they will reheat just fine in the oven.

Instant grits are awful. Quick grits are better than the usual regular to me, but stoneground are the best.

Regular. Instant grits?
Mr. Tipton: No self respectin' Southerner uses instant grits. I take pride in my grits.
Vinny Gambini: So, Mr. Tipton, how could it take you 5 minutes to cook your grits when it takes the entire grit eating world 20 minutes?
Mr. Tipton: I don't know, I'm a fast cook I guess.
Vinny Gambini: I'm sorry I was all the way over here I couldn't hear you did you say you were a fast cook, that's it?
Mr. Tipton: Yeah.
Vinny Gambini: Are we to believe that boiling water soaks into a grit faster in your kitchen than anywhere else on the face of the earth?
Mr. Tipton: I don't know.
Vinny Gambini: Well, I guess the laws of physics cease to exist on top of your stove. Were these magic grits? Did you buy them from the same guy who sold Jack his beanstalk beans?

Yes, definitely; however, I've discovered that once the Quick Grits are done, if you throw several ice cubes in the pot, the grits will really get creamy like the regular ones.

re: Quick grits vs. Regular

The only difference between quick grits and regular is the size of the grit. Quick grits are ground a little finer so they will cook a little quicker. I prefer stone ground because of the texture, but quick grits are good too.

Instant grits are pre-cooked and dehydrated, they are an abomination, I won't serve them to a toddler or a Yankee.

when I moved to Denver back some time ago I went to the grocery and could not find grits. When I asked where they were located, that was the answer/question I got back

I can taste the difference. Nothing beats stone ground yellow grits in any situation. However, when cooked correctly, instant grits can be pretty good for a simple breakfast.

i grew up on instant grits so they will always hold a place in my stomach, but i made some quick grits last night and mixed in a little sour cream and bleu cheese and served with some sauteed shrimp and green onions

it was excellent

That's pretty damn funny. I love that movie. Probably seen it about 20 times. Great lines.

I think grits have more possibilities as a matrix dish than rice, potatoes or bread. You can season them in so many ways it is endless.
