Sure hope so....can't take another year of mass confusion, soft coverage, and blitzes a blind man could see coming.

How many times can this question be asked and discussed?

I'm so ready for the season. The Rant is brutal right now. Not an original thought or decent analysis.

Do y'all think Jarrett Lee will improve? F ME.

Yes

The more important question, in my opinion, is how much better? Is Chavis the caliber of coordinator that is highly successful at making adjustments once the game starts that can help us win the big games and championships?

Chavis better be one helluva difference maker because the players and the head coach are pretty much the same people that were crappy last year.

No analysis? I asked a rhetorical question and posted a link to a classic example - a 90 yard drive by a mid-major - complete with late substitutions, pre-snap confusion, and soft coverage.

Sometimes it's worthwhile revisiting what the problem was to figure out how it's getting fixed. I think that video shows coaching was the biggest contributor to our problems.

Sorry that I assumed people could watch that video and come to the same conclusion. Since you want analysis spoon fed to you - Chavis and his assistants have track records suggesting players will be lined up properly, have good fundamentals, and sound schemes. The answer is, we'll be much better on D this year.

Happy now that I've done all your thinking for you?

Thanks, Knute. Seems like you asked a question you already knew the answer to. I'm glad you got the opportunity to flash your defensive knowledge.

Rocket, that's the right question. We'll be much better on D - will it be a championship D? I don't know. I'm hoping the assistants are an upgrade over what Chavis had at UT, and that will make a difference for the better (over what Chavis did at UT, which was pretty good).

wouldn't the head coach also have some responsibility for making sure those things happened?

You complain about a lack of analysis - but your only contribution is to analyze other posters. Thanks for the input, Joan Rivers. How about some analysis of Paris Hilton while you're on a roll?

The players spent more time looking at the sideline that looking at the opposing offense.

I don't doubt Chavis is capable of quality preparation during the week.

But, if you want to win the big games and titles, you got to have a coordinator that is successful in making adjustments once the game starts. Whether or not a coordinator can do that can make the difference in 8-9 win seasons and championship seasons.

How in the hell can one form an analysis when the team hasn't even taken one snap? Nobody, including coaches and players, knows how the upcoming season is going to play out.

Yeah. He screwed up by promoting the co-DCs, and one or two of the defensive assistants probably should have never been brought to LSU even as a position coach.

He's also trying to fix the problem this year, by replacing the entire defensive staff.

I agree with that. I'm not sure Chavis has a great reputation for in-game adjustments but I never really paid that much attention to UT as we don't play them every year.

I do think a sound coordinator, with LSU-level talent, coupled with a good offensive coordinator (which we have with Crowton), is good for 10+ win seasons most years. Lack of in-game adjustments with that combination is most likely to bite you against the best teams with top coaches - SECCG, BCSCG, etc.
