LSU fan called in and asked did King think the LSU fans have embraced Miles. King said he felt like the LSU fans would say they have accpeted Miles but that many fans still have doubts he is the long term LSU coach. I would agree with that statement. Another season like last year and MOST LSU fans will be screaming for his firing.

Evidently that "fan" doesn't. Why would some douche call into a syndicated radio show like that unless he was wanting Miles to look bad. That is just stupid. Sure 8-5 was crummy, but it was on the heels of a NC and a 34-6 mark.

But oh,no. Some jackass has to call in to verify if LSU fans have "embraced" him.

does this mean that LSU is a stepping stone, or does it mean that 2 or 3 consecutive sub 10 win seasons fans will want him gone.

I for one kind of question Miles game managment a bit, BUT until it actually fails him I think he is just a risky type of guy. I don't think another season like last year will have him on the hot seat. 2 more maybe.

You can't really hold him to task for last season, he did the best with what he had (quarterbacks and D). No way to improve QB play last season, Jefferson wasn't ready/didn't know the play book well enough to start any earlier. As for the D, he knew more than anyone that it was a problem but changing in the middle of the season would not have helped and would have been grasping at straws (look how well Tubs firing of the OC durring the season, made him look like he had no control of the program and he paid the price).

Additionaly, with a new DC it takes time for the D to progress so they had the chance to do better at the end of the season (remember Pelini's first couple of games, Arizona State was a disaster and their QB had his way with us, but his D got steadily better).

At the offseason Miles made the right moves. He brings in good people, and as any successful manager knows his worth is measured by the quality of the people he surrounds himself with.

He is also an excellent recruiter to boot. If we go 9-3 then I say he did a great job. The 2010 season we will be ranked in the top 3 preseason. With experience everywhere it counts.

I'd be willing to bet you'd be one of the first ones on here bitching if Miles went 8-5 again. You would turn on him so quick, it's not even funny and forget about that 34-6 mark.

No,I'd be one of the last.

However, you stated yesterday you'd complain about him if he goes 14-0 and wins the BCS.

Is King an expert about LSU fans or does he know Miles situation well? Is King's word final and does it settle the matter?

A sampling of posts over the last few years on different sites will show that Miles has gained a lot of credibility with the fans. Last year though, brought out the fence sitters in earnest. A good year in 2009 can put the issue to rest.

so you're saying that the ultimate responsibility of a teams success isn't on the coach?

I still say that 8-5 was misleading:

Miles didn't throw 7 pick sixes last year. He didn't throw an INT in the end zone in OT against #1 Alabama.
Miles also didn't get called for 2 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties that gave Arkansas a comeback win after trailing 30-14 in the 4th.
Miles didn't throw an INT for a TD on the first play of the game against Georiga after a great opening kickoff return.

As much as I like Miles, I had a bunch of issues with last season. Lot of bad breaks, but some of the stuff I pin on Miles.

However, having a problem with 2008 does not = "hot seat", "must win" or any of that nonsense in my book.

No, I don't think so. I hold him resopsible for hiring the DCs but he took the fire for that and made the changes. You hold him to task for the only option at QB playing poorly? And don't say the issue would not have happened if he hadn't kicked RP off the team, that dude needed to go.

I never said I would complain if he went 14-0. I'm just not going to jump all over him if he does. Unlike some fans on this board I have the balls to admit my feelings towards Miles as a coach. My feelings have been the same since day 1.

I just understand how some don't see another 8-5 season as being bad. Another season like that will hurt LSU. They can forget about players like Seastrunk, Luc, Loston, Randle, Reed, etc. etc. thinking about comoing here because they'll go somewhere else. Then we'd be back to where it all began, MIKE ARCHER!!!!

You're right. He didn't.

But he did help motivate, coach, teach, train, discipline, etc. etc. all the players on that team who made those mistakes. I think that has a "little" something do with it.

I dont want to get into this conversation because it is silly, but I can tell you have not read many of 59's post. he is one of the more level headed posters on the board. I doubt he would be calling for miles head without something really out of the ordinary happening.

You are correct, I haven't, and in no way I'm I dogging I-59. All I'm saying is any LSU fan that went through the 90's (which I did) should have a little bit of a problem with 2 back to back 8-5 seasons or be able to admit some concern.

IF that happens,of course I would. As much as I like Miles I don't think he should get a lifetime pass.Regardless an 8-5 record in '09 wouldn't justify dismissal or even warrant serious talk of such. But an 8-5 mark in 2009 would indeed be a bad mark,in as much of what the man accomplished in '05-'07. 2010 would be crucial at that point and 2011 would be an absolute necessity.

With that said,on August 21st I have no reason to think 2009 will be a bad,or mediocre season.
