According to this link

And in HD (I think).

Now there's a new reason to wake up early on Saturdays. EPL at 7:45 (Eastern) will finish just in time for Gameday. They also have a bunch of Monday afternoon games.

First game is Chelsea v Hull, though I doubt Jozy will play after the game in Mexico.

I have mixed emotions about this...on one hand I hate what ESPN does to sports, but on the other I like that games are being taken away from Setanta.

If you don't have DirecTv you were pretty much SOL when it came to Setanta games, but now that won't be as much of a problem.

I'm hoping that ESPN does this the right way and uses proper commentators (read:English) and doesn't try to Americanize everything.

Well they're gonna be the ones producing it over here, and there's no way the typical English fan would accept Premiership commentators from anywhere other than England (sadly, because English commentators are dull, I prefer Spanish and I don't even speak Spanish).

So I guess it just matters whether they think the typical American fan will be happy to listen to English commentary and put out the same feed.

well if we're not going to have Derek Rae do it (best in the world imo), then we need to keep the feed.

It sounds extremely elitist, but american announcers don't seems to do well with the pace of the game. I don't begrudge them for this, because it's foreign to us, but when I listen to a match I always want the announcers to be british.

The early match is the only one they can do given the college football coverage. This is better than nothing.

There's a couple week window where the US is still on Daylight's Savings and the UK isn't, otherwise the Sat games will be 7:45.

I think Summers in Court House opens at 8.

true, I will ruin a good Friday night to stay in and wake up for that match.

anyways, I'd like to take this opportunity to offer a hardy to people on this board who think that soccer is still just 'trendy' and wont make it in this country

I checked that out for the Confed Cup final. Good atmosphere. Though in my experience I like Lucky Bar in DuPont the best.

Setanta has entered the markets for several cable operators lately.

I'm keeping my Setanta subscription (on Dish, BTW) primarily for rugby, anyway.

I used to spend so many Saturday and Sunday mornings in pubs watching matches and then watching college football in the afternoon. I still may go on weekends when I don't have to play, just for the atmosphere.

I remember when FSC used to broadcast the early match, but they cut that out I think when Setanta came along. Sometimes the marquee game is in that slot, so it will be nice to have.

This is also a good chance to expose more people to the game. Roll out of the rack for college football.... first game is at 11 AM.

I'm sure there's no other live sports on before Gameday.

There's also the provision in there where ESPN gets a 9AM game if there is no 6.45AM available.

Perfect lead-in to that crappy first Big 10 game on the deuce.

BTW, did anyone tell you guys that Bundesliga starts this weekend, the EPL next weekend, and the first NCAA game is less than a month away!!!!!

And NFL preseason starts Sunday, and the Tri-Nations is in full swing.

Greatest time of the year.

In the Eastern Time Zone where you are...yes.

But, here in Louisiana and Texas, they'll be at 6:45 after the time meshes up. I often go to Trinity Hall here in Dallas if the 6:45 matchup is a one I'm interested in. They'll open up that early if the match is good.

I've done the same (possibly in the same pubs) and loved it. Great time of year for sports watching. Although, it gets real rough if LSU is playing a night game.

Bundesliga can be quite an entertaining league to watch. Great matchup to open the season today as well. Wolfsburg (2008 champions) and Stuttgart (2008 3rd place). Live on Gol TV at 1:30 p.m. (288 on Cox in Baton Rouge)
