So thanks to another thread a long-ago memory of enjoying tasty-and-cheap steaks at some weird bluebird-logo'd place on Nicholson has been revived. Images of paneling and plastic-covered tables also come to mind.
Now, can anyone validate my next recollection that after Mickey's, the steaks and/or chef then moved to Acadian Seafood on Perkins?

Mickey's Gold Nugget was great.
For Italian, we used to love Europe's out on Airline, and, of course,(the original) The Village Restaurant by Cortana Mall.

Iron Pot....good old Jeb Stewart
He would bring those big steaks to room temp....soak em in beef renderings and then slap em on the grill....the drunker he got the better the steak.

loved that place as a kid.
Europes was great too. Ate there last in 95 I think, the waiter was drunk off his arse, food and drinks falling off his tray
Always thought the village was over-rated.
LaFondas on Airline use to be great, not sure if it still is, I know it's still there
Zorbas was great for greek/med until they moved to perkins

Yes, it was also the original Glen's after iron pot moved out....Jeb opened up on Satsuma Road after that...Not a lot of business but Jeb was still Jeb....now the 911 building is in that location....Those were the days....I got a friend that is trying to improve his steak business....he is using Prime Angus ribeyes....was asking me about sirloin...I advised no...due to the better the flavor the tougher the steak...Thought he would get a bad reputation from the people who really don't understand beef cuts and flavor....but I was thinking....steak by the pound....You choose and he cuts them and cooks them for so much a pound...thought that was a good idea but I was wondering about the sides...do you charge extra or just include it in the price per pound?...what do you think?...all inclusive? or a Ruth Chris' type thing?

I went to a place like that in Memphis. I can't remember the name, but they had a meat counter with many cuts and styles. You chose the steak and size of the cut, and the price included sides and access to a pretty decent salad bar.
It worked for me. I really enjoyed it and ate a pretty decent steak with all the trimmings I could handle.

we were talking about him bringing the rack out to the table and you telling him where to cut...then he weighs it. The salad and stuffed potato included for approx....$1.25 per ounce

I think that is right. Acadian Seafood burned not too long after this.

Ah yes. And then sometime later didn't the big overhead billboard fall into the building? The same BB which in modern times has featured Doe's (hah!).

That was about the time a friend of mine's father got hammered and drove his Buick through the dining room of the Denny's across the street. That was beautiful on the 10 pm news.

First cut porter house, 3 inches thick, rare, served like at Peter Lugers with sides serves two couples beautifully. Of course the filet is huge 'cuz it is the first cut. Problem is you have to ACTUALLY have a butcher who BUTCHERS and I usually get mine at Dorignacs or Langensteins when in the city.

Was that the guy who was drinking at T.J. Ribs back in 1990 or 1991? I was working there that night and saw the whole thing. He was a regular at T.J.s' and Mr. Moran was very worried about a law suit as I recall. The manager coached the bartenders and waitresses on what to say if anyone asked them about the incident.

His name wasn't Dick. He's dead now rest his soul but he was a very bad alcoholic who drove all the time. It was really sad for his kids.
