Good, there have been some serious problems the last two years with teams rolling their bats, and offensive production has spiked in that time span.
That is a huge number that really compromises the product on the field.

The NCAA announced that all bats would be tested prior to the CWS, and bats that failed the tests would be discarded. It turns out, 80 percent of the composite bats exceeded the current NCAA acceptable performance level, according to a memo sent by the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee to bat manufacturers in July.
That is a huge number that really compromises the product on the field.

What the hell is bat rolling?

Bat rolling loosens up the fibers of a composite bat by putting them through rubber rollers. The looser fibers creates more of a trampoline effect and launches the ball off the bat.
Bat rolling:

Although the majority of the bats that exceeded the NCAA performance level were probably rolled, a bat can fail the test due to extensive use. If the bat is used enough it can loosen the fibers the same way that rolling does and it could cause the bat to fail the test.

Hope they don't do that but cutting the price down by half would be awesome

What is "rolling"? I've been around baseball a while, but never heard this term.

we did that in high school, well, our coaches did. Just getting the most performance out of what you got imo. The same thing happens to the bat when you use it for a long period of time and that isn't considered "cheating." I don't really have a problem with it. There are way more serious ways of "cheating" with a baseball bat than rolling them.

HOwever, if the bat fails the test, and it is still used...that is cheating. They gotta stop doing these types of things. Sadly enough, it's gonna take a few pitchers taking 130 MPH dingers to the head before the NCAA does somehting about this

How does it compromise the product on the field if all batters have the opportunity to use these bats?
That's like saying that baseball gloves should be banned, since those who use them have a competitive advantage over those who choose to play bare-handed.
If these bats are more "live" than the aluminum bats, then any serious batter should choose a composite...just as no serious batter would choose wooden bats in the college game, since he doesn't have to, and aluminum has more "pop".

Well if they don't pass the NCAA regulations, it's against the rules. It's as simple as that.

Time to break out the wiffle bats instead.
note: This is sarcasm.

Is it? I thought the whole point of the thread was that they were "considering" banning these bats.
I say that until the NCAA bans these bats, and as long as there's a plausible explanation for exceeding performance standards (such as excessive use and such), then if Manieri calls my number, I'm taking a rolled composite bat to the plate.
After all, I'd have to substantiate my MLB ambitions with good numbers in college and all...

the deal with composite bats is real simple...
out of the box.. they are the same and meet specs.... after broken in.. different story....

It is not cheating. Rolling has the same outcome as using the bat over an extended period of time or should i say a certain number of hits. So what you're saying is that a person who uses an unrolled bat has an "illegal" bat if it fails the test but has never rolled it. Play the game and find out yourself.

ALL METAL BATS should be banned

Yep. Once they get broken in, the ball just jumps off the bat.

seems like every time LSU wins a title...NCAA wants to outlaw bats

Those Texas bats must have been well aged and juicy after all.

This year the Easton rep came by my school, and he said the reason Fresno Stae won the NC two years was because they used Easton bats lol.
