Curious who the Les Miles recruits that sort of came out of nowhere, and have had an impact on the field, might be. Guys that when they were recruited, nobody really knew much about or that weren't highly rated by the recruiting sites.

Richard Dickson maybe, I don't think he was real highly rated when initially offered, although I think he ended up a 4-star by NSD.

Jordan Jefferson was under the radar at the time of his offer, and looks like the real deal.

Others?

Dickson and Jefferson were very good recruits.

If Tahj jones, and Bennie logan pan out, then they are definitely sleepers.

<not including the Selma dude, glad to have him though>

Bennie Logan is a good sleeper candidate, as would Josh Downs, but wondering if any of them have had an impact on the field yet?

There are quite a few examples...Morris Claiborne, Williford...and go back a few years and the obvious Hester and Tyson Jackson.

The two proven ones are Black and LaFell, both 3 stars.

I think that Morris Claiborne is going to be his biggest gem of all.

Williford

Not a hidden gem.

I actually like the take, but he is definitely a project.

Josh Dworaczyk was a low 3-star when he committed, 4-star by signing day, and seems to have a promising future at O-line.

Hester had an offer from Texas, and with the new distribution of stars on Rivals over the past few years, Tyson probably would have been a non-250 4-star. Both were great players, but I really wouldn't call them sleepers.

logan? ok

jones? no way. he was very, VERY hyped before his senior year. his star rankings fell b/c he was supposedly a VERY long way away from qualifying

sleeper is not the same thing as underrated by rivals or scout

lafell had offfers from major BCS schools

i know black was at least recruited by les at OSU as well as LSU. rivals lists an offer from UT and TTech also

black was listed as an OG, which hurts his ranking (just like how hester was a 2-star, but that's b/c he was listed as a fullback)

Hester was not only offered by Texas early, he committed to Texas early in the process

if you're calling him a gem, he's a gem that Texas found

When were the offers extended? Was it this time of the year or during their senior year?

Black committed to LSU relatively early (when Saban was our head coach)

if he's a gem, he's a Saban gem

He was a sleeper at the time of his commitment. Once you're committed to LSU, you are no longer a sleeper.

If this Blackman (Racist?) fellow turns into a 5-star later on, he still was a sleeper on July 24, 2009.

Josh Downs played in the Under Armour game. . .so I don't think he qualifies. . .at least as I understand the initial post.

It seems to me that we need to think of guys who didn't bump up at the end of their senior season but rather came to campus with expectations they far exceeded once they hit the field.

I appreciate the posts that Lafell was recruited by other BCS schools. As I recall however, he was viewed as an "add-on" in the RJ Jackson sweepstakes (RJ played in the Army game). Yada, yada, yada LaFell is being talked about as possibly the first receiver taken in the draft. Just that consideration doesn't match any expectations that most people had. Just sayin'
