Can somebody who subscribes to the recruiting publications, please post a list of the top 5-10 offensive linemen from LA. Why is a 235lb center from Georgia (Cameron Fordham) worthy of a scholarship offer but the highest rated OL from Louisiana (6-4 290 pound Luke Charpentier from Curtis) isn't? .............

Beause Fordham is a center and Charpentier isn't.

Height and weight isn't the only thing you look for in an OL. How does he carry the weight, can he add more, will his frame hold more. How coachable is he? Too many variables.

I know I keep bringing up Todd McClure, but take a look at him and he's still playing in the NFL. The big thing with OC is technique.

Kevin Mawae was 240# out of high school and has been playing in the NFL for 17 years. His Jr. year at LSU he was 262#. His Sr. year, he was 270#. Pro Bowler how many times?

I think Les and Studs have this one under control.

Exactly right. Another variable is age and level of maturity physically and mentally. A sixteen or seventeen year old weighing 235 could easily project into a 280 or 290 lb nineteen year old. I notice Cameron runs sub 4.7 fortys. That's a huge plus for a center as well.

You know Willie Roaf wasn't much bigger than that coming out of high school as well and was a basketball player ala Washington.

Its really not too much in the way of rocket science for anyone with any knowledge of recruiting or football in general

Jason Hatcher was 6'5'', 220 lb. ,1st team allstate wide receiver out of Jena, went to grambling, hit the weights hard and graduated around 285 lbs. Now with Cowboys, and weighs 305.
Defensive end.

Correct, I wasn't positive on the weight but remember him bulking up a lot. I've noticed this guy who started the thread hasn't responded to any of these very very valid posts

Highly doubtful McClure would even sniff an offer from LSU in this era. Just saying

I beg to differ, even during his time people were saying the only reason he was signed was because of his brother.

I was not in that group. I watched the kid play for a couple years, I saw the same thing the staff did. A kid that could have played a # of positions. OC was the place they had set for him. Looks like they saw the talent also, same thing with Barksdale making the move to OT. Good coaches see talent, the list is endless. They are many hit and misses. The good ones make the hits. Want a list of the hits by staffs?
Want the misses?

I got a ton of them.

I can give you many, let me know how many you want.

About half of our O-linemen come from out of state. Porter is from in-state.

He's probably right, LSUDad. It's rare a top program signs a real project for OL.

Eric Andolsek weighed around 220 coming out of HS. He would not have gotten an offer from LSU if he were coming out of HS right now.
