Does anyone have experience in dealing with USAA for insurance/banking services? Thinking about switching over but have heard mixed reviews on many of their services.

We have USAA auto and home insurance and all bank accounts with USAA. I also have a term life insurance policy through them.

I will say banking customer service, while still good, isn't quite what it used to be. My husband has been a USAA member for over 20 years and he has noticed a decline in banking customer service over the past year or two, but, it's still good. Insurance customer service kicks arse.

I have heard all of the good about them on insurance and direct deposit services while overseas but their customer service was the sticking point that many who I spoke to hated.

Naval Federal CU is a no go from what I had read.

My husband thinks they started hiring a bunch of dumbasses to do banking customer service. But like I said, you won't get "bad" service, it's just not the excellent phone service they provided in the past (i.e. requests made in the past that the person answering your call would be able to fulfill and would know exactly how to help you...now, if it's not the most routine of requests, it's going to require talking to a higher up; also, in the past, no matter who answered you would get the same level of service, now it can vary depending on who answers). It would have to get a LOT worse before we would even consider moving our bank accounts. I just don't see that ever happening.

I don't have any bank accounts with them, but I have Homeowners, Personal Article, Flood, Life & car insurance with them and have never had a single problem with anything. Between the discount they offer now if you have home & auto with them, and the rebate you get at the end of every year, I don't know why anyone who was eligible wouldn't use them.

My mom has 1 credit card with them, and she seems impressed. She's never had any trouble with statements or trying to cash in points or miles. I think she would recommend the card to others.

I have USAA checking, savings, Credit Card, Mortgage, Car Loan, Homeowners Insurance, Personal Property Insurance, and Auto Insurance.

They have been great with everything. Customer service is great every time I call. For me, they have been cheaper than every other company. Plus, I get the dividend every year. Only problem could be if you deal a lot with cash because you can't make cash deposits.

Was not aware of that. I'll have to remember that in case I ever need it.

They are very eager to please their customers. If I had a problem, they often would call me back with a solution rather than just stop at whatever the policy was that kept us from moving forward. The only time I've changed banks is because they would not do a rental policy for me while I was living in Australia, so I had to go with someone else.

Overall, I have had a very good experience with USAA. However, if you live in New Orleans or other areas of South Louisiana, I don't believe USAA is providing homeowner's coverage.

At first, they wouldn't provide it to me in Houston either, but I told them I would have to move my other insurance with them to a competitor for added savings and they folded on their restriction.

I am a big fan. They write my insurance in Covington (I was here pre-Katrina). My rates are less than all my neighbors by far. Banking is sweet. They deposit military pay two days before my old Navy FCU did. I scan deposit checks at home too.

Customer service is still very good.

Loan rates are weak. They have never matched Navy FCU or Pentagon FCU. I keep my accounts open with them just for the purposes of securing home/mortgage loans.

If you already USAA homeowners ins. and move, they will insure you. Plus, no named storm deductible.

I've got credit card, checking, and wife's brokerage acct. there. I used to have their insurance but I ran into a personal/commercial problem which led to a customer service problem. Overall I like em though.
