I'm sure it's been mentioned on the Rant before, but he's got to at least be mentioned as one of the best athletes in LSU's history even with a little over half of his 4 year eligibility gone. With all the notoriety that he received during the CWS, he will have to be looked at as an All-America this year in football even before the first game. Please don't cut the dreadlocks Chad.

A little pre-emptive don't you think?

He is WELL on his way in my opinion. Another great year in both football and baseball and he should be considered a top 5 athlete.

What are some other historical duel sport stars that LSU has had? We have had some pretty good track/football combos but I find the baseball/football or basketball/football combos much more intriguing.

Does he have a starting position on either team?

He has the potential to be there, but maybe we should wait until he's a regular starter in at least one sport.

ETA...Alajones, you beat me to it.

We have had a lot of guys who were highly touted in dual sports out of high school but chose to stick with one. Michael Clayton was a beast in basketball and would have been a valuable member on our BBall teams.

Early Doucet was said to be better than most of the guys on the 2006 final four team

Yeah, Early played club ball (can't remember the actual name) with Garrett, Tazmin and Big Baby. That team was unreal and a lot thought that Early was the best of the bunch.

he is one amazing athlete, but seriously you should consider making a top ten list of all time Tiger greats, and see how quick it fills up, and then see if he still fits in there over some of the names you get...I think he can be one of the greats, but I don't think it's so clear cut

Early Doucet usedr to beat up on Big Baby, TT, T Mitchell and G Temple on a regular basis from what I understand, til they all started outgrowing him.

I'm not sure his contributions to the football team merit him being considered.

At least the way I have approached this topic is "who has contributed the most to multiple sports while at LSU"

I know right, who knows what J Mitch could have done in football had they not been so much talent at that position.

not to hate on Chad Jones, but he really hasn't doen anything in baseball? Maybe pitch more then 1 inning in a game like 3 times?

and Jared wasn't made to play WR he was made to play QB.
Have you seen his high school stats?

Just because you play two sports does not mean you are a "better" athletically just because of that.

Shaq for his size - and footwork should be considered one of "greatest athlete."

Billy Cannon - obviously in considered one of the greatest. he was easily the best in that time frame.

I would throw Todd Kinchen, Lyle Mouton, Wendell Davis, Gabe Northern, Booger McFarland, D-Bowe, Leon Landry, just to name a few that were proven and many drafted as elite athletes at the next level..

If we're talking about only dual sport athletes, Trindon needs to be mentioned.

Can't disagree too much with that. But the original poster was thinking more hypothetically for future contributions. And I think it is safe to assume that.

I really think he can become a great relief pitcher.
