All of the media guides list this game as "at Mississippi State." You may want to contact someone at the Monroe News Star and see if they can look up the story in their archives.

My father-in-law was at Mississippi State in the 60's and often reminds me how much better it is today. Makes me question his sanity as a young man.

I've run across a couple of unused tickets to that game. They list the game as in Monroe, as does td.com history.

They didn't have a football program until 1951.

I'm having trouble deciphering when this stadium was built (ULM's Malone Stadium).

I am not sure if UL-M played here or elsewhere pre-1978.

Chances are, LSU and Mississippi St. played in whatever facility UL-M played in back then.

Malone Stadium is the quintessential Sun Belt facility. Opened in 1978, it's a leftover from when this program was a DI-AA powerhouse. ULM was a national champion in 1935 and again in 1987.
There are two separate grandstand structures, one is a small double decker and the other is a large and steep double decker with the pressbox on top. I am on the top of the pressbox, which seems to be about 15 stories high. The capacity is 30,427.

still don't keep them from having a field of some sort.
not many things were developed in 1933.

Hell they could've played at Neville High school... I don't know, I can't find anything on it.

Yes, and it was called Mississippi State College (starting in 1932). Before that, it was called Mississippi A&M. The name was changed to Mississippi State University in 1958.

True--I do know that they did field a football team most or all years back when they were a junior college, 1931-51. It just seems like a new JC would have had a tough time hosting bigger 4-year universities back then. I think that Monroe also had a minor league baseball stadium in those times. It wasn't unusual for football teams to play baseball stadiums prior to the 1960s...
