it's not really debatable. UF is better in almost every program. Better research university with better graduate schools.

True, plus harder to get into. Think about the amount of people that live in Florida. They are able to be much more selective.

My question to you is this. Why do you get offended when someone says another SEC school is better than LSU? UF is is by far superior than LSU when it comes to academics.

+1
But I don't think it's that much better. UF isnt exactly Ivy League here.

are you really questioning whether or not LSU is even up to par with UF's academics?

UF is leaps and bounds ahead of LSU in that aspect, broseph.

I know several kids with GPA's of 4.0 or better that did not get admitted to UF. The cost of tuition to state schools in FL is ridiculously low so it is ultra-competitive.

UF is the second best academic school in the SEC behind only Vanderbilt (obviously).

I can compare my program at LSU with UF, and UF is better because

1) Better research - in terms of research output, quality of research, funding, diversity in research
2) Better opportunities for graduating students
3) More respected

One of the indicators of a departments success is see where their graduates land up if they are going for academic jobs. We have UF graduates teaching in our departments at LSU. The other way round ... not so much.

I would argue that Georgia is slightly better than Florida but both behind Vanderbilt.

Really, should anyone considering either school, be that worried about which is better? It's not like either is the top academic school in the nation.

The difference between the two is squat... relatively speaking of course compared to lets say, the Ivy League.

I kind of thought UGA was more highly regarded than UF too, but who knows. Both are behind Vandy but above LSU I suppose.

UF has really come on lately and has passed UGA in most publications. Right now UGA is third behind Vandy and UF

Look man, I am from Florida and I HAAATE.... and I mean HAAAAAATE that damn University. But they kick our asses hands down as far as academics go. Their public schools (as far as K-12) are near the bottom of the country's though along with Louisiana, so I dk what it is

UF is not what is cracked up to be. I have many colleagues who went to UF and I obviously know many who went to LSU including myself, including graduate programs.

I will say it is not until more recently that LSU has improved their academic stature, but it definitely on par with UF.

I will also say that UGA is better than UF based on some of the criteria mentioned. More national merit scholars, research funding, and undergraduate placement, etc.

Final note: LSU is a damn fine school and is respected very well in a broad sense. Certain programs however especially in graduate fields are as good as any public institution in the country.
