No, it's because they missed workouts and classroom disruptions

Oh they were in class alright. They made themselvevs very known. Enough to for the teacher to give ole Chizik an earful.

Luckily, none were on the 2-deep chart.

It happens.

It also leaves enough for 3 more 5 stars that we have locked. JUUUUUUUUUUST kidding.

Well, I respect Chizik for doing the right thing (if in fact it was right, which I am assuming).

Sid - I also wouldn't be surprised if these guys didn't "fit in" with the new philosophy, or the players just didn't "mesh". My guess is a combination of both. Either way, with a new regime, you get some of this. Dye and Tuberville did the same, just like most other schools with new staffs do. Gotta do what you gotta do in order to move in a new direction.

I will tell you this - Coach Curtis Luper is a machine and is really working on changing the image of the Auburn football player - with regards to earings, pants, hats, yes sir, yes mam, etc....

I know that new coaches in the South love to emphasize these things, but I think it's mostly done to win the support of Church-going, conservative, older boosters. Coach O said the exact same things when he came in at Ole Miss, and he ended up dismissing a lot of the very own guys he recruited in 2005 a year or two later.

I didn't say he was a recruiting machine. I was referring to the culture he is trying to create at Auburn right now, with the players. However, You do know he is our recruiting coordinator, right? That means if you think "Tiger Prowl" and "Big Cat Weekend" were a good idea, you would be giving him most of the credit, because it was mainly his idea, despite what the staff says about it being a collaborative effort of ideas. He's a hard nosed, straight shooter with a military background who has a GREAT reputation as a recruiter. This isn't Auburn making this stuff up.

I don't think Tyrik Rollison is the key to changing the perception of the Auburn program in terms of the stuff you were listing earlier.

However, I don't think that the Auburn team has a particularly bad image. They just were not a very good football team last year, and Rollison can be a great help in the next couple of years.

Keys - where did I mention Rollison? It's all good either way. I just know I like him, A LOT.

Luper was the guy who brought Rollison to Auburn. He was considered an OK State lean for most of the recruiting process, then switched to Auburn after Luper went there.

But I don't think Rollison will be an off the field distraction (unless he just struggles academically). On the other hand, I think David Oku (another Luper target) is a total mess, but Luper still went after him hard (and probably kept AU as one of Oku's final three schools).

I'm not criticizing Luper for recruiting these guys. They are top talents with lots of offers, but they don't really show that Luper is committed to bringing new types of guys to the Auburn program.

I'm sure they made this move to create a little space. First year coaches are going to be tough on players they didn't recruit, esp. if they have not preformed well.

Keys - good points. Rollison is in by the way. My point originally was that Luper, as well as the rest of the staff, are trying to change the culture - getting some much needed life in the program that has been missing for 3 years now. He is coming up with great ideas as far as recruiting, and right now Chizik and Luper in particular are really being hard on the guys, essentially weeding out the ones that either 1)they don't think fit in with the current system or 2)aren't buying into the system, or 3)just aren't good enough in their opinion. I think a year down the road is when we're gonna really see the fruits of this staff's labor, both on the recruiting side as relationships are built with instate and surrounding area coaches/principals, as well as on the field as the systems, both offensively and defensively. This year we're gonna struggle and I can only hope to win 1 of the UGA, LSU, and UA games. I really think 8-4 would be a huge "win". 7-5 more likely. Ya'll have it all this year. But I'm sure it'll be another nailbiter between us two again, regardless of the situation. LSU VS AU gives me a big case of heartburn EVERY YEAR!
