NFL had a farm system

Yeah man. Then we can pay rookies $55 million a year to play farm ball. God I hate the rookie salaries.

Hopefully they get a hold of that soon and set a entry level based salary for the first 2 to 3 seasons.

A rookie salary cap is desperately needed.
As for the farm system, I don't know if it would succeed because of the NCAA. People follow NFL and NCAA Football and that's about it. The AFL isn't doing that well and not that many people watch the CFL. NFL Europe didn't succeed.
What would be interesting is what would happen when Bryce Brown, M. Clarret, Willie Williams, etc. would skip college to go strait to the NFL developmental league...

I think he meant the AAFL - All American Football League which is trying to get off the ground but only allowing players who've completed their 4 year degree.
The big thing with any other football league is to have it during the football off season. I think you could have a successful league that starts in like late March or April or shortly after the draft. By then most football fans are in withdrawal

Well, considering that the AAFL never got off the ground, it's hard to say that it's "not doing well".
I think that he meant the Arena league, which also isn't doing well, because "shutting down operations" falls under not doing well.

I know the Arena Leauge is gone.
I just remember the draft for some league, I thought it was the AFL also, where Arkansas and Florida had a team and the players were suppose to be from around that area. Aren't they suppose to start playing soon and didn't they run into problems?

That was the AAFL, the host cities would be college cities, and a team could protect regional players in the inaugurate draft to at least stir up some interest.

and we got the UFL starting now. Kinda makes me laugh that Haslett is there. A few cup of coffee Saints too...

* Greg Fassitt (CB) - drafted by Orlando - Placed on IR during Saints training camp in 2008.
* Rob Petitti (T) - drafted by Orlando - Backed up Jon Stinchcomb during 2006 season.

I've got a little rant on the college to pro system scam. These kids are making gazillions of dollars for universities for virtually nothing. Their careers are at risk by one wrong tackle at the knees. The NFL colludes with them that they won't draft them until 3 years out of high school. They get a free of charge farm system in that way. Granted, to have such an opportunity at all is something most of us would (or would have) paid for. American free enterprise is built on supply and demand pricing however. A technogeek sophomore in college might defer a degree when offered a high paying job. I believe if there was a Kobe or LeBron level football talent out of high school there should be nothing to prevent him from playing in the NFL- that is, getting the most reward he can for what talent he possesses. The current system benefits the NCAA & NFL while limiting the players options.

I do think it is great for the fans. I just have a beef when big business suppresses potential earning from the individuals.
Beisbol is screwed up in the payroll disparities but ya gotta give the players credit for maximizing their earnings. Minimum there is $400K and average is over $3mil.

Rookie cap is meant only to protect teams from themselves.
Everyone acts like these players are to blame for getting 50-70 million dollar deals, but the teams are giving them out.
By all accounts the Lions overpaid Stafford and the Jets overpaid Sanchez. Agents are part of the problem but the teams letting themselves get raped at the negotiating table is the bigger issue

there is one but it works differently from nba. teams are allowed to spend a certain amount on total rookies salaries. they can give the big amount to the 1st round pick, but you have to give less to the other rookies to make the rookie cap.
