Decided to take the wife down to New Orleans this Saturday. Booked us a room at Le Pavillon. She's
always wanted to stay there and I found a good deal. Trying to find help with two scenarios. First, if LSU wins Friday night , where is a good medium priced restaurant ( around $75 w/o drinks)I can take the wife that's close to this area? I looked on trip advisor and came up with Irene's Cuisine, but I have no experience there.
Second, if , god forbid, we have to play Saturday night, where is a good sports bar with decent food to watch the game?

Question A: You may be able to swing The Pelican Club for that, or a little over. Well worth it if over.

Question B: Cooter Browns, but go early. I may be doing this too.

For Friday night, check out the websites for Rio Mar or La Bocca and see if that looks interesting to you. I am quite sure youc an do Rio Mar for that price, La Bocca might be a tad more, but it is an exceptional steak place a little in the style of something from Argentina. They do well priced wines also, many of which come in the glass or half bottle.

Yeah, for the second part, I agree with Cooter Browns.
If you would rather stay in the downtown area, there is another thread on here that mentions the bar of Cafe Giovoni where the person said they had a good time watching the game. You can def. gets some good appetizers and such there.

Scroll down this thread on the first page and then to the second.

Sounds like Cafe Giovanni is right up your alley, though you won't be watching LSU that night! Our bracket is the day game, anyway, I believe.

From what I understand from talking to the bartenders at Cooter Brown's the other night, they are expecting a madhouse this Friday. I didn't go there for the games this past weekend, but, word was, you could hardly breathe.

+1 on Cooter's. Great place, AWESOME beer selection, pretty decent food too!

For Friday night, go check out Jacques-Imo's Cafe- Definitely my favorite Uptown restaurant. By far. A lot.

One of the best meals I've ever had in N.O. Whenever I've recommended that restaurant I've never heard anything but praise and thanks.

Like everybody is saying, Cooter Brown's will be rockin, very good bar food, but also like everybody said...it will be paaaaaaacked.

Try the Bulldog, there's one on Canal and one on Magazine. Can't go wrong with either. Good bar food, awesome beer selection, should have a good crowd, but not be packed.

ETA: Jacques-Imo's Cafe is an awesome choice too. Get the alligator cheese cake appetizer...among other things.

You don't eat out much do you? JMo's isn't in the top 15 of uptown restuarants.

I bet he lives in or around BR.

This isn't a criticism of him or the restaurant, it's just an observation that has seemed to play out lately. A lot of folks there seem to think it's somehow the 'definitive' New Orleans restaurant.

I agree with you mostly, though. If it's top 15 'Uptown' it's definitely closer to 15 than number one. I wouldn't put it top 10 there, by any stretch.

Please note, that Y.A. mentioned BR...not me.

I like the idea of taking the Cemetary line Canal St. until it ends and walking a block to Canal Blvd. Bulldog...you will have a very good time there and will be surrounded by LSU fans.

Yep.

CP, Gautreau's, Clancy's, Patois, Vizard's, Bistro Daisy, Lilette, Dick and Jenny's, Brigtsen's, Petit Grocery, Crepe Nanou, Upperline, Casamento's, Jamila's, Boucherie, Dante's Kitchen, and The Flaming Torch.
IMO all are better than over-hyped JMo's.

Wahooo, I love a good J-I's fight.
Seriously, IMHO the atmosphere and the fun to be had at the place is a 9. The food gets a 5.
I really think that if you were to put the food that Copelands puts out in that place, that it would be all that much difference.

I just think that when people stand in line with their friends drinking for an hour, they get that great buzz going and get extra hungry, then when they eat it taste excellent and they have these great memories of the place.

It is good, but not great. I ain't every waiting more than 20 minutes for that again though.

It is a fun place to go with a group. A terrible place on a date or to get food with some thought to it.

If a lot of people like something, how can it be overhyped? If the minority doesn't like something that =/= overhyped. It's closer to you can't please all the people all the time IMO.

Isn't that the definition of over-hyped? When people come out of the woodwork to praise a place without trying other places in the vicinty that screams over-hyped.
