Those were the days! Walking in to the Box on your ID and sitting anywhere you pleased. I do not remember the specifics, but was no where near the draw as it is now. Big Red and his side-kick sitting behind home plate yelling "Tiger bait." I think the ONLY sell-out we ever had in those years was the night the San Diego chicken was at the game! Where were Chris and the K-Lady?

Amazing how far we have come.

I remember those days well. A couple hundred fans was about normal back then.

Mr. Bertman gets a ton of credit from me because I remember the years before he arrived.

That's pretty much the way it is for the vast majority of college baseball teams still these days.

Baseball at the Box is truly a special experience.

Spring 1990 ... brought my younger brother (13 or so at the time) to an LSU weekend game ... don't know who it was against.

Showed my student ID, they let us BOTH in and we got to pick our seats in the Grandstand!

Amazing how times change ...

Show your ID after class, bring a huggy, dump your books in your car, and put a 12 pack in there in place. Good times. You could do this in Skip's early years as well.

The fact that people came out to see The San Diego chicken is sad.

Back when U-High, Episcopal, Catholic,etc..kids could walk right onto the field at night during the offseason, for spiked watermelon parties, and frisbee,etc..wasn't hallowed grounds back then.

Old Red had the best pipes ever..could throw his voice a mile.

Thanks, but I'd rather refer to it as "seasoned veteran" than old!

I played HS ball with a pitcher that walked on at LSU. Two other teammates played for other teams. A pitcher for Tulane and a shortstop for ULM. Would always go when we played either of them.

There are still a few of us around, although I go to more funerals than I used to. These days are better in many ways, including LSU baseball.

Do any of you remember who the star of that SEC Championship team was and what position he played?

He is definitely an interesting character. He was the first person I met on my first day at LSU in 1979.

I remember going to some midweek in-state games and they'd have as many fans as we did. And the lights around the stadium/field were just awful.

I was in school when Lamabe was dismissed and Skip was hired. Lamabe claimed Brodhead never told him ahead of time he was fired, that he found out about it reading the then Morning Advocate and seeing a position for LSU's baseball coach in the classifieds.

Brodhead was a tool, but surely that story isn't accurate ?

His name was Mike Miley played shortstop, he came back to LSU after being drafted by the San Diego Padres and was the quarterback on the football team. He died in a car crash in 1975. He did what Danny Ainge did but Danny played Baseball and then went on to play Basketball for BYU and then was drafted by Boston. They both played Pro sports at the same time played College sports. Boston made him quit playing Baseball when they drafted him.
