I read a post down a little ways where a poster said second round money is not all that good and he will be back.

I am a high school coac. We had a kid drafted in the 39th round last year that got $750,000. Granted he was a top 5 talent, but there was some question on whether or not he could be signed. His contract was negotiated on the last day by his father in the stands at an American Legion tournament.

A team will not use a 2nd round pick unless they are pretty damn sure the kid can be signed. I don't know what your definition of "good money" is but if a 39th round draft pick can get 750 large, I am sure DJ will get a pretty damn good check!

Unless DJ just wants to come back he is gone. Their is no other reason that is going to keep him here.

I've never heard of a player getting that much. Something you were told must be mistaken because that guy would be one rich minor leauger.

You sure it wasn't 75,000???

His name is Jared Cosart. He played at Clear Creek High School. He was drafted by the Phillies. I know the young man very, very well.

Let's not jump all over someone for sharing something with us. While I agree that $750k in the 39th is a VERY strange give the benefit of the doubt here.

I agree that DJ is gone too. But speculation is just dumb.

This says he was drafted in the 38th round, not the 39th....and it was 550K, not 750K.

That's still some good money for coming out of high school, don't you think?

But 550 is still a shitload for a 38th rounder. This makes me think Colvin is gone since he was drafted by the Phillies.

He wasn't drafted higher because of signability...that's the whole point of the post...The Phillies saw him in August at Americqn Legion tournament and his last pitch was 95 on the Stalker which is the slower gun...they decided they wanted the kid pretty bad so they threw the money at him...Trust me...I know the kid very well..He is in the instructional leagues rehabbing an injury...
