To all those I saw on the rant downing Byrd yesterday and hoping he didnt pitch I am glad PM is coaching and not you. May I suggest we dont bash our own players and try to pump them up instead. Ryan is one great kid and no matter what he or any other has done we need to praise not down them. Jarret Lee is a great example of this.....THEY ARE TIGERS.

Two of LSU's seniors really stepped it up today. Great job Byrd and Haydel. With Ross, Bradshaw, Cain, Byrd, and Haydel's performances in this tourney, do you feel better about our pitching going into the regional?

Great job Ryan Byrd. Actually got to meet him his Soph. year coaching at the LSU baseball game. Jokster and helped us get through those HOT arse JULY days with his pranks!

Congrats guy, you deserve a win like this!!

His whole family is like that with the jokes. One of the most fun bunch of people you will ever be around. But I have to admit I was just as proud for Haydel. I hope this team blows Omaha wide open.

We have all been guilty to 2nd guessing LSU coaches in the past, it's called "arm-chair" quarterback.
Based on Ryan Byrd in the regular season, I fo rone didn't think he was the right choice yesterday, but I am sooooo glad I was wrong. PM knows his team far better than I do. However, I am extremely proud of Ryan Bryd and the way he pitche dus to an SEC Tournament Championship. Geaux Tigers!

"You just have to give credit to LSU and [pitcher] Ryan Byrd. He did what he had to do to keep us off balance. We really could not get anything going offensively, and I think that was the story of the game. Obviously, I did not think that six or seven runs would be insurmountable, but he did enough to keep us off balance. [Relief pitcher] Buzzy Haydel did a nice job, too. Hand it to LSU, sometimes when things are not going well, the other side has a lot to do with it, and that was the case today."

--- Vanderbilt Head Coach Tim Corbin

On LSU's starting pitcher Ryan Byrd...

"He pitched a really good game today. He kept the ball low, and he put the ball where he wanted it at the times that he needed to. We did not strike out that much, but we just did not get the timely hits that we needed to. Credit to him, he kept us off balance and got the job done."

--- Vanderbilt First Baseman Curt Casili

quote:

On getting the start in the clinching game...

"I would say this ranks up there pretty high. I want to thank coach for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to pitch today. He came to me on the bus and asked me if I wanted the ball and it definitely gave me a boost of confidence. When your head coach has that kind of confidence in you and 25 guys behind you that believe in you, its a pretty good feeling."

--- Ryan Byrd, LSU Starting Pitcher

Ryan Byrd Buzzy Haydel ... It's gotta be gratifying for some of these veteran guys (e.g. Derek Helenihi jackin a 3-run shot vs Alabama on Thursday and Nolan Cain's performance Saturday night) to get it done like that for some nice hardware in Hoover. Now that's what I call senior leadership.

To the Tigers and Coach Mainieri ... well done.

It's always good to have one more reliable arm. You can never have too many. He pitched a great game.

If we get pitching like this thru the rest of the post season, this team is going to be dangerous !

I listened to the game on WWL driving back from Orange Beach on Sunday but wish I could have seen Ryan pitch. He came through when it counted the most.

I work with Ryan's father (and they live right down the street from me as well) and he told me that Mainieri gave Ryan the ball on the bus on the way back to the hotel and told him that he wanted Ryan to be the one to pitch on Sunday. Certain guys might have been a little fearful pitching knowing what was on the line but Ryan was pumped about starting and it certainly showed.
