Does anyone know who swings the biggest bat in the majors. I know Hamilton swings a 36/36. I looked it up and didnt see anything, but I read that Babe Ruth swung a 52 oz bat. I find this ludicrous though and don't know if thats even believeable

When I was at the game on Saturday, they were selling game used bats. All three Hamilton ones that I picked up were 35/33. I made the comment to my buddy that I thought he swung a heavier bat.

Ruth used a 40oz. bat in 1927, when he hit 60 HR.

Maris used a 33oz. bat to break the record.

McGwire used a 35oz. bat to break that record.

Bonds used a 32 oz. bat when he hit 73.

Their studies say that 40oz. is optimal for max power (based on reduced bat speed, but still a basic f=ma equation) but of course using one that heavy is going to require the swing to start a little sooner, and less bat control.

I don't know... my guess would be something like that 35/33 that Hamilton uses.

I was at the same game. Where were you sitting?
We were behind the plate and right outside they were selling broken bp bats for 300 bucks a piece. (insane)There were 3 for hamilton. 2 were 36/36 and the other one was 35.5/35.5

I know that guys use different sizes depending on the pitcher and sometimes even the situation. but not regularly.

It was 47oz and made from hickory

The guys used a heavier bat because they were made from denser woods that would last whole seasons. They didn't have the luxury of bat makers shelling out new bats all the time.

That link said it was 40 oz. that season, but he had used heavier hickory bats (up to 54 oz.) before.

Yep. Thats the ones. I have a pic of the Louisville slugger. That one was def 35/33. And I think at least one of the black ones was 35/33 as well. We were on the first base line in the 2nd row right by the camera well.

I wonder where if they had two displays in that area, because I definitely saw 36/36, 36/36, 35.5/35.5, and you have no reason to make up the 35/33 bat.

I'm very curious to know what his typical size is then. I was in awe of the 36/36. It takes a MAN to get around an inside fastball with that beast. I would say a 35/33 is pretty accurate to the size most guys use. The standard college bat is 34/31 but big leaguers cant be more then -2

I believe Edd Roush used the heaviest documented bat in baseball history (48 oz.).

All I know is Ortiz better start using alot lighter than what he has been using, maybe then he can hit a 85 mph fastball
