And that includes the Valley and Bay area. We're headed out west for a week or so and looking for the best dim sum, thai, sushi, and all around restaurants in the area. French Laundry is out (didn't enjoy it the first time), Garry Danko is in. Would appreciate any advice and tips you can share. Thanks.

Well, you clearly know that this is going to draw inquiry so I'll bite. What did you not like about French Laundry?
I can understand thinking it was overpriced, but to flat out not enjoy it is somewhat shocking.

No, you're absolutely right, I should rephrase that. It was a great meal...and experience. The oysters and pearls were as good as advertised, and the wine was fantastic. However I did think it was overpriced, and I think any place with so much hype is hard to live up to, especially when you go in with such high expectations. Gary Danko on the other hand was one of the best meals I have had...bar none.

Gary Danko is a definite. Also one of the best meals I've ever had, and the best creme brulee I've ever had in my life.
I would also suggest The Slanted Door. It's a Vietnamese fusion type place. The food was outstanding, and the atmosphere is interesting. It's one of those "place to be seen" type restuarants it seemed for the 30 or so crowd after work.
