Is there a reason you can't buy a new radiator? You do know they're replaceable, right?

It really is a piece of shite. The thing is my wife is going to make me get a new car in the next few months anyway. So how much does it cost to get a new radiator?

wait all that is wrong is the radiator???

Okay, cheapest fix, break a raw egg and put it in the radiator.seriously this works though I wouldn't personally do it.

Just spend $3, and get a radiator leak sealer, its like little copper shavings that get into the crack and seal it.
If that doesn't fix it then.
You can go to a junk yard and get another one, or you can tell me what kind of car you have and I will find the lowest price on a radiator and post it here.

If it is another problem that shouldn't be that big of a deal, the coolant system is usually the easiest to diagnose and repair.

(Unless you have a 95-03 Chrysler and the water pump goes out, in that case drive your car in the lake and report it stolen)

A radiator at a junkyard can be as cheap as $10, on ebay as cheap as $40.

Are you sure it is leaking? Is it an all metal radiator or does it have plastic sides?

As you can probably guess, I don't know shite about cars. All I know is it has been running a little hot for a few days. Today it starts smoking like a SOB. Once it cooled I opened up the radiator cap and it was bone dry. I filled it up and turned it on. Within a minute or so coolant was leaking on the ground.

BTW it's a 2000 Chevy Blazer

Man that could be a lot of things.

If it is just pouring out then it could be the water pump (could you tell me what kind of car it is? that matters)

See when the water pump locks up usually there is a water bypass that will drain the water out of the car. A crack will not "pour" coolant.

Can you see where the leak is coming from?

It could just be the hose is broken near a clamp. if this is the case you may only be looking at $10 for a part.
Does it look like the water is leaking from under the engine, or from under the radiator.

Regardless, try the "stop leak" that would seal a small leak pretty good. Though if it is a part failure you are going to have to replace it asap. Running with your car overheating will screw up your head, and can blow your engine.

Okay a blazer.

4.3 liter?

Okay look at the area around your fan, the fan itself is attached to the water-pump. (unless you have an electric fan then the water pump is at the center of the serpentine belt, but not the lowest component, that is the crank)
Does the water appear to be coming from this area?

Or does it appear to be coming from the radiator?

Is your radiator wet?
You may have to get on the ground and look to see where exactly it is dripping from.

It looks like it is coming from the front driver's side of the radiator.

If it starts to run too hot, put your heater on.

You can buy a used radiator cheap, a new one might only set you back $120.

well if it is coming from under the radiator it rules out the water pump, its just that the water will sometimes seep from a higher point to a lower point, making diagnosing leaks harder.

I am going to assume that you are an eye doctor, and not the "go to a junkyard for a part type"

Which isn't a bad thing seeing that this is an easy car to fix and cheap too.

2000 chevy radiators

the other link is cheaper and is oem quality, this is ebay

guy with same problem and a good forum to help you out

I would recommend doing it yourself, just buy a book from autozone and a cheap socket set.

You will be overcharged if you take it to a mechanic.

can you rule out the lower return hose?

I am not looking at a diagram right now.
I think your radiator just has a crack.

Try the "stop leak", because your system is going to need a flush anyway if a part needs to be replaced, and if the crack is small enough $3-$5 will fix the problem.

If that does not help get a radiator, and you can track me down if you have any more questions later.

re: How much does it cost to fix a leaky car radiator?

My hobby is restoring cars.
I have an 86 Jag XJ6 and a 93 5.0 LX that are both undergoing ground up restorations.

A 2000 3.5 RL I that I have to replace the front end on. Then a Jetta that I just put a monster turbo in (had bought the car here from a user).
Then a boat I got to paint.
Then none of those cars I drive.

My dodge ram is always breaking down and I also have a Buick that was given to me.

I get help all the time online at other sites, so if I can return the favor here and there, I do it.
