The Sooners fell short in the Final Four against Louisville, but athletic director Joe Castiglione said Tuesday the university wouldn’t hold Paris to her promise.
Big surprise.

She could just make a donation to the athletic dept.

She sure didn't seem like she was gonna back out. I still think she'll pay

She'll at least make a little money in the WNBA. She could pay it back over time with no problem.

She's doing something else instead. Read the story. It's short.

So instead Paris says she plans to set up a fund that will go to the needy in Oklahoma.
Even better..Good for her

Her dad is rich I guess....she should have no problem paying it back!

Sarcasm? I'm pretty sure the family is not rich. The only reason I say this is, there was talk about how he was going to go about paying it off if they didn't win.

Her Dad is Bubba Paris. He played OL for the 49ers back in the 80's. I'm sure they have a little money.

most dudes who played in the 80's went broke by the mid 90's. Even if they managed their money well(I'm talking about an O-lineman) they'd still not be able to throw around 60G's like it's water.
ETA: his primary income now is as a motivational speaker. I bet he doesn't make 100 thousand a year doing that.

Well over half of former NFL players blow all of their money within five years of retirement.

Yep, most of them live beyond their means and by year 5 it's not only gone but most of their assets are in jeopardy. With his income now, I seriously doubt he wants to pay back the fricking Sooners for what he thought was his daughters free education. I bet he hates that bitch right about now.

pretty sure bubbas getting about 100k in pension per year

At the time of the pledge Courtney said she'd pay it back even if it took the rest of her life.
Between the WNBA and playing in Europe--plus taking her education seriously because she doesn't expect to be set for life from playing basketball--she'll be able to pay it back eventually. And since she most likely would have been a strong supporter of the university anyway, the pledge was more symbolic than substantive.

And how much of that is being garnished?

Wow, that's pretty harsh. I remember them talking about the situation during one of her games and they made it sound like the family definitely wasn't hurting for money.

She basically fricked Oklahoma, her Dad, and herself with this promise:
1) OU - they are in a no win if they take the money. Everyone would accuse them of being heartless, and it sets a bad precedent.
2) Her dad surley would have had to help keep the promise in some way in the beginning. The promise also brought unwanted attention to him, who probably just wanted to enjoy his daughters careers.
3) She looks like a complete arse for this considering UConn was stacked, and she was in worse shape her Senior season than the other 3.
Courtney, shut up. Two good things will happen. You'll not make a fool of yourself, and you may drop a 1/2 ton off that fat arse.
