WTF?!? This is why the Nats/Expos always and will forever suck. Dukes has an attitude problem, but they knew that when they acquired him. He's got far more upside and future for a team looking to build. They're not going to compete for the division, so why make a stupid start by putting Austin Kearns in your everyday lineup?

They're hoping he plays well so they can trade him, it shouldn't last too long.

The thought of having Austin Kearns in my everyday lineup just made me throw up in my mouth a little, and I'm not even a Nats fan.

Unless they are offering up trades to entice some AAA teams looking to win their league, Kearns is a waste of a spot on the roster.

Wow. And I thought they would have a respectable lineup with the Dukes, Dunn, Zimmerman trio.

And suppose he does play well.. you're not going to get anything worthwhile by trading him. Nothing that will overtake the value of making Dukes an everyday player and a staple of your lineup.

Dukes is a legit 5 tool guy. Austin Kearns is struggling to develop 1 tool.

Chill man. Believe me I can't wait to see Kearns off the team. He is dead weight now. He might be gone soon.

Though the Nationals still have not announced it, because the players involved had not been informed of the decision as of an hour before tonight's game, team officials are saying privately that Austin Kearns will be the starting right fielder. Everything, of course, is fluid -- because Kearns won't be playing every day, because Elijah Dukes will also see some time in center field, because Josh Willingham must also get at-bats, because a trade is always a possibility, and because players get hurt. But for now, it appears Kearns won the job with an impressive spring, aided in part by his work with new hitting coach Rick Eckstein.

We'll have more on this after the game, as I expect Manny Acta to address the situation then.
