He needs to teach his players how to sit back and hit offspeed pitches not try to pull them out the park and stike out looking like a dumbasss.

Seems like any team we face that has pitchers that can throw the change up give us fits...dating back to irvine last year.
What is the deal?

IDK but it was pathetic today. Looked like a JV team.
Noone made adjustments at the plate.

quite the well thought out post
They will come around its still early and it always takes hitters just a little bit longer to make the correct adjustments to off speed and breaking stuff early in the year.

Happens alot after a game like last night.

Theres not much to think about, its pretty evident to me. These guys think its still '97.

I don't think they've been playing college baseball that long...

oh, you dont?
Pretty sure Gibbs was about 8 years old in '97, but yes he was in college.

Mainiere said that he just had to tip his hat to the Illinois pitcher and I agree. It's not often that a guy with a changeup as his go-to pitch is able to pitch esentially a complete game.
Coach M said he'd throw the fast ball every once in a while just to keep the hitters honest. I was at the game and I think he may have thrown a fastball 2 maybe three times an inning. It was frustrating to see the guys not making adjustments at all. Coach M said they tried to make adjustments by moving up in the box, but I can tell you it wasn't a very heart felt effort. My budy turned to me in the 7th inning and said "Why haven't they moved up in the box at all?"
I was pretty disapointed today.

So no player and no coach could figure out how to make an adjustment during the game and hit a guy's change-up?
That's fairly poor.

The kids fastball was about as fast as alot of people's changeup.. I watched him all game and in warmups.. Seriously I think it was just as much our lousy hitting than it was him pitching great.. He was maybe throwing over 84 with his fastball.

Not to mention friday nights game and players up there first flaling away instead of working the count especially after walks
Posted on 3/8/09 at 9:27 pm to Mudminnow
Im mixed on this because I thought we should have DEF took more 1st pitch swings since they were consistently throwing it down the pipe on the first pitch. But yea you need to work the count too. Im to the point where I cant stand Chad Jones batting anymore. How is he batting 300+ luck? He consistently has the wost at bats on the team. Dean has been down lately but at least he takes good cuts.

Agreed, my little rant earlier in the thread had alot to do with Chad and Blake's at bats today.
They looked pathetic. They were swinging out of thier shoes and guessing fastball but were given a steady dose of offspeed stuff.

We are perfect, we never fight, we never disagree, we never call our players, or coaches, or other LSU fans names.
We deserve an undefeated season.
WTF are they thinking losing like that?
This isnt acceptable.
I demand a new team right now!
