so I just made this hashbrown casserole for the first time and I am wondering if I should have mixed the soup mixture in with the hasbrowns rather than just pour on top. The recipe stated to layer the frozen hashbrowns, salt & pepper, then pour the soup mixture (cream of chicken, sour cream, melted butter), and top with shredded sharp cheddar cheese.

Should I have mixed them all together with the hashbrowns first?

I hope I didn't mess this up.

I'm supposed to drop it off tomorrow for a funeral.

mix it up, but cream of mushroom works so much better than cream of chicken.

I think it will be fine...the soup butter and cheese will marry down into the potatoes while cooking.

I usually mix all the ingredients together and I agree using the cream of mushroom soup instead of the cream of chicken. Another addition that works well to complete it is to top it with a mixture of crushed corn flakes and butter. Mix the corn flakes with about 2-3 tablespoons of softend butter them sprinkle crumbled mixture on top and bake.
