The Mist

People like to throw around the title of "worst movie ever" a lot on this board... but I will refrain from doing so.

I confidently rate The Mist... easily in my top 5 shitiest movies ever.

I did not cut it off, even though I wanted to at times. However, I did fast forward multiple times.

/Spoilers/

I was fast forwarding hoping for some semblance of a decent ending, that would make this movie redeemable from the rating of one of the shitiest movies ever... BUT in true form, it goes and has an ending like that. Solidifying itself as one of the all time great shitfest.

/end rant

I liked it. A little over the top with religion but who the hell knows how anyone would really respond if it looked like the world was ending.

For it to be in you worst top 5 you really must not have seen many movies.

Heck it is better than at least 5 of the last 10 Pacino films along. Righteous Kill, 88 Minutes, Gigli, The Recruit and S1mone.

Watching "The Mist" one time was one time too many for me.

It had a completely different ending than the Stephen King story did, if I remember correctly.

Yes but King said he wished he had thought of that ending. I still think his ending was more grim for humanity as opposed to just a few people.

I liked it. I'm rarely fooled at how a movie will end but this one got me.

Spoilers

I liked it as well. Actually picked up the DVD the other day. Probably one of my favorite low budget films behind the Evil Dead series.

FWIW, not only did King whole heartedly approve of the film ending, the movie ending was implied in the short story (outside of the final twist that is, which was added to make the ending provocative rather than just straight up depressing.)

No. That ending was not even close to implied in the story.

SPOILERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

In the story, the mist is still out there and potential the whole world is covered in mist and monsters. That is what is implied at the end of the story.

SPOILERS

I didn't say that it was implied at the end.

There is a line in the short story after they leave the store when the main character notes that he has one bullet short of passengers and that if needed he would do the others and "figure" something out for himself.

The only original part to the Mist ending was the military coming in 5 seconds after he murdered folks.

Spoilersssssssssssssssssss.

THe mist going away was also new. In the book the mist did not evaporate. Basically the book was more bleak because all of humanity was covered in mist and monsters.

Yeah, that too....I just tied that in with the military bit though.

Same here.

It's been discussed on here before that the movie is less about the mist and what's in it, and more of a story of how quickly humans delve into their primal emotions when everything "normal" is stripped away.

I thought it was great.

+1

The social commentary is the only thing that makes it notable.

Without it, it is just a very bad monster horror flick.

I appreciate creativity and not the same cookie cutter shite that's at the end of every horror movie.

I even disagree on this part. Darabont stated that he wanted an over the top 1950's feel for the film. I think he nailed it, particularly in the b&w version.
