Brick Haley

belowpar is saying Brick Haley, Chicago Bears DL coach, is next in line... also have heard former Broncos DL coach, Bill Johnson, is a possibility... plus Chavis may have some guys in mind from his UT staff...

We don't need or want an NFL coach. Their egos WILL NOT allow them to take a demotion back down to the college game. That's a step back to most of them. They'll be gone in a year or two. Hire a talented college DL coach or maybe an older experienced DL coach like a Pete Jenkins or John Peace........

Chances are if they really feel that way they won't even interview. Since colleges are paying more than they used to I don't think many of them would consider it a demotion.

If Chavis brings Caldwell I would be happy with that. He's a good coach as well as a good recruiter.

Pete Jenkins=the best DL coach we have had (in my lifetime at least), and he OWNED New Orleans when it came to recruiting. Think there were some issues at LSU (not offering DC?), but maybe someone more in the know could help out...

I played for Pete and he is like a 2nd father. He retired then came out of retirement to come back with Saban. Dunbar was at LSU as asst strength and cond coach(like Raymond now) The plan was for Pete to give it a couple of years and then Dundee to take over. Pete retired again but Saban didn't want Dunbar. Andy Reid convinced him to come out of retirement and scratch his NFL itch. I haven't talked to him since last X-mas, but have heard from some of his friends he may want to come back here to finish his career. LSU is his love and he has close ties to Curtis and many other high school coaches.

I don't care for J Curtis but you are wrong about the 20 year old thing. The LHSAA rules don't allow a student to participate in Athletics if they are 19 before the first day of school in August. I can bet that the coaches in the N O area would know if they were using illegal players they would turn them in.
