The final nail in our coffin was not the money. LSU could have matched that if they had really wanted to. It was rumored and stated several times on this board that O wanted to be a DC. He knew that neither UT or LSU would give him that, but UT simply went farther than we were willing to with the "in-waiting" promise. Personally, I am happy that Miles wouldn't cave to that crap because O was terrible calling the D at Ole Miss. Even if we did offer it to him, Chavis has a much longer shelf life than Kiffen due to age. It is now clear that this was a Sexton special and he was just just playing all sides. I would have liked to have O, but this is certainly not the end of the world. Just think, if Saban hasn't been able to walk into LA and take anyy big time recruits, then neither will O.

I don't need a link, it fits based on what he said and the fact that Monte is older than dirt

easily solved. Just promise him the same thing. If D sucks, they're all fired. If D works, LSU wins a lot more bowl games and he gets his shot. If his shot turns out like Malveto, get O a job at Nichols State.

I'm so tired of this board and all the people thinking they know shite. In waiting my arse. Kiffin has no leg to stand on for promising something like that.

I think every thread should be prefaced with "Although I don't know shite..."

I guess no one here is familiar with the art of reading between the lines. Do you really think O turned his back on any shot at his "dream job" for $50k? Please. Couple that with Monte's age and you have your answer. I don't go on the UT boards, but know tons of UT fans in the Memphis area, and I am getting this understanding from all of them. Not one person has argued this point. Guess they know how to read between lines.

There's your first problem right there.

Coach O knew that Chavis has the potential to be here a long time. Secondly, Monte won't -- 2 years I guess and he can move up to DC. I believe the DC in waiting was a part of the conversation along with the money.

I expected a little resistence to the idea that UT would be handing the keys to a guy that did so poorly calling the D for Ole Myth. I got none. I got nothing but acceptance of this as if it were set in stone. I was pretty surprised. Many of the more reasonable ones weren't very happy about the idea, either. Several thought the price was too high and not worth the risk.

That would be great for LSU, since O absolutely sucked running the defense at Ole' Miss during his disastrous stint as a HC.
