Can the remake be as good as the original? Even with its cheezy effects, the original was a classic.

ETA: AMC is showing the original 12/11 @ 7pmCST

It was a good storyline for its time. Not sure how it will play today.

I love the old one, one of those really great sci-fi movies from the 50's.

The new one actually looks like an interesting spin on the movie, exactly what every remake should be. But how good will it be? There's no telling at this point.

Keanu spooks me out in the previews. Never thought the dude from Bill and Ted could spook me out.

Nothing can replace the original. I saw it back in the 50s, when I was a kid; it scared me to death when Gort got going. And that weird music that sounds so cheesy today was really creepy back in the day.

However, I am very interested in this remake. But I hope it is not just a stupid teched out, plotless version like remake sof The Blob, The Thing (from another world), or Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the Donald Sutherland version).

Those old 1950s sci fi movies were in a class of their own.

Not a chance the remake will be in the same class as the original. It set the standard for sci-fi films and is a true classic.

more important question:

Does Reeves kick the kung fu in this one?

As long as Keanu's in a movie that gives him the chance to go ".....whoa," it'll probably be pretty good.

I think the original still holds up pretty well. I'll see the remake, but I don't expect it to be near the first film. The special effects in the new one seem pretty cool though.

My thoughts exactly. Keanu should nail this.
