Defense....The Scheme is Bad, the Fundamentals are Worse

I think 99% of our fans would agree the defensive scheme sucks and has to be changed. That said, even with the shitty scheme, I think it would be less of an issue if we would just execute on the plays where our guys actually were in the right place.
Our tackling wouldn't be acceptable in a pee wee league game. Half the time, the guys wait on the contact to come to them and the other half, they put their heads down or turn away from the runner and just slide off to the side. Why isn't that being addressed?
Then other times, we seem to be in the right place, but don't make the play. The long run by the Arky RB in the first qtr...there were about 5 guys surrounding him, yet somehow he manages to scoot though all of them for a huge gain. This sort of stuff happens all the time. I don't know if we're taking bad angles or what's going on, but why isn't that being addressed as well?

the only thing that pisses me off more than the tackling by our secondary is the absolute clusterfrick that happens before every play.
our guys never look set and confident in what they're going to do when the offense snaps the ball.

The poor tackling is a disgrace, especially in the 12th game of the season.
Wide open passing plays, and so many of them, is a lack of brain power on the field, on the sideline, and in the pressbox.
To think that the overall history of LSU was built on defense. Looks like the nineties all over again.
But Miles will say, except for three or four plays, the defense looked great.

I've seen several comments that Pelini had the same scheme but would have been in many player's faces re: their lack of effort, etc. I know its the same scheme and all, but the D under Pelini had much more oomph. Goes back to the coaches running the scheme...they currently suck.

I think it's a great idea to leave a 10-15 yd cushion between defender and receiver, seems to be working so far.

Drives me nuts. Guys are literally looking the other way when the ball is snapped. I've never like all the mass subsitutions, even though I know the majority of teams do it. Throw in a couple of extra DBs in obvious passing situations, but otherwise, throw your best 11 guys out there and go with it.

Not to mention the lack of discipline which has been a problem on both sides of the ball since day one of Les ball.

seems like our guys are getting dragged by the ball-carrier AFTER they make the hit.

From where I sat in War Memorial yesterday, this loss was on the coaches--PERIOD!

That's exactly what worries me.

Half the time it appeared our guys were looking to the sideline as the ball was being snapped trying to figure out what to do. Saw several times where players just shrugged and looked at each other, like
