Assuming LSU wins the next 2, what the chances LSU plays in the bowl formerly known as Hall of Fame? Assuming that UGA wins out, the bowl formerly known as Citrus is very likely to choose the Dogs. They have not played there in 4+ yrs. Would the former HOF Bowl take LSU over SC? The Cocks played there after the 2000 & '01 seasons but LSU has not played there since the end of the '88 season. This seems unlikely since the former HOF Bowl's disdain for SEC West teams. Maybe I'm just wishfully thinking since a match-up vs. the Slow 10 is much more favorable for LSU.

BTW, I refuse to use the corporate names attached to bowls. This "naming rights are up for the highest bidder on a yearly basis & to hell w/ traditional names" attitude needs to stay in NASCAR where it originated.

Actually - the "Bacardi Bowl" - which I believe was the 2nd or bowl game ever played after only the Rose Bowl - was first played in 1907 in Cuba. It was between LSU and Havana University and LSU won 56-0. It was the first game played by a U.S. college team on foreign soil.

I'm not so concerned with the name as I am the history. If a bowl is called the "Peach Bowl" it should remain the "Peach Bowl" If Chik-Fil-A wants to sponsor it and call it the "Chik-Fil-A Peach Bowl", well, alright then, but calling it just the "Chik-Fil-A" bowl destroys the history of the bowl. There ought to be rules against it - if you get rid of the bowls name, you should have to get at the back of the line, behind the "Papajohns.com Bowl", to get bids on teams.

Well, we have no chance unless the SEC sends two teams to the BCS.

If the SEC does send two teams to the BCS, and assuming we win out, we will be competing with Vanderbilt and South Carolina. Both could finish 8-4. We would finish 9-3. I am guessing that we still go to the Cotton, and the Outback gets South Carolina or Vandy, assuming they win out.

Pretty sure it's contractual. They have first pick of the East teams and the Cotton Bowl has first pick of the West teams. It's for traveling purposes.

Does the Cotton pick before the Outback? Surely, the Cotton Bowl has to know that LSU fans aren't exactly overjoyed at the prospect of freezing their asses off in Dallas, when they could be in sunny Tampa instead. I wouldn't be surprised if LSU does not sell out their entire ticket allotment if they are selected by the Cotton Bowl.

I checked both bowls' sites. Neither states a tie-in to a specific division. Tenn. played @ the Cotton Bowl after the 2000 & '04 season so it's possible for an East team to play in Dallas.

The Cotton gets the 'next best' SEC West team after the BCS and Cap One. The Outback gets the 'next best' SEC East team. My guess is UF and Bama make the BCS, UGA gets the Cap One, S. Carolina gets the Outback and LSU gets the Cotton.

From the SEC website...

quote:

The Capital One (2nd), will then make its pick following the BCS selections. The bowl must select the team with the next best overall record or a team within one win of the team with the next best overall record.

The Outback, Chick-fil-A and AT&T Cotton Bowls will work with the conference office to determine picks 3-5. The Cotton Bowl has the first preference of teams from the Western Division and the Outback Bowl has first preference of teams from the Eastern Division. The Cotton or Outback Bowl can select teams outside of its divisional preference, but must not select them before the opposite bowl selects from its divisional preference.

If I understand it right, the Outback could take LSU only if the Cotton passes on us first.
If LSU is 9-3, the Cotton isn't going to pass on us.
Now, if Georgia loses to Ga. Tech, LSU could get bumped up to the Cap One Bowl.

Lots to happen to get to the Cotton Bowl....we may not be that lucky!

One thing for sure, though.....LSU fans will be in full force, come rain, sleet, or snow!!

I, for one, will welcome the opportunity to slide my rear end down to Dallas for any game vs. the Big 12 "powerhouses"...

Maybe not a good matchup, but would be interesting to see how they do...if nothing else, if we get whipped badly, we will have the evidence we need that our coaches (old or new)will neeed to do some revamping of ideas and personnel in order to prevent from happening again in future years.

What if S. Car loses to Clemson and ends up 7-5? MAYBE, the Cotton would let us go to the Outback since we haven't been there.

Even the Citrus Bowl was sponsored by the Citrus industry in Florida. It's hard to escape the commericialism.

The Cotton Bowl is LSU best bowl scenario. Get over the weather issue and the time the game starts. Us playing UT, OU or Tech would be one of the top 3-4 bowl games of the year behind the NCG and maybe the Rose if its Penn St. vs. USC.

Agreed.
If LSU loses to Ole Miss, the Cotton Bowl would be hard pressed to pass on a Rebels team that beat the defending national champions and Florida in the same season.
I do believe LSU still goes Cotton if they beat Ole Miss and lose to Arky.

LSU not selling out for the Cotton Bowl would not happen period. Not being able to get enough tickets more likely.
