LSU Petroleum Engineering

Is anyone in this major? What should I expect? Is the geology camp worth 6 weeks out of the summer? What is the level of difficulty and how would you rank or compare it?

I here good things about jobs afterwords. What are the internships like during college and about how long did it take to complete? (without switching majors)

If anyone switched out-why? How long were you PETE and what did you switch to. How was the transition of the credits?

I'll be an incoming freshman next year and this is my top choice. I am just looking for a little input. I also have been interested in pre-dentistry and medical professions(Biology or Chemistry), Landscape Architecture, Internal Audit, and Business.

re: LSU Petroleum Engineering
just make sure you study, ALOT. Basically however much you think you need to study, double that. It's my first semester and I found this out the hard way and I'm not one who goes out alot.

I'm a civil engineering major but i 3 friends who are petrolium, we take alot of the same clases, and they all love it. The department is pretty well orginized.
If you bust arse and know thats what you want to do coming in to college you can get out in 4 years, but you'll probably have to take some summer class and you sure has hell can't fail one.

re: LSU Petroleum Engineering
In PETE you take just as many if not more chemical/mechanical engineering classes than you to petroleum.

Reservoir dynamics
Well logging
Petrophysics

I suppose it depends on what type of PE you become when you graduate-drilling, reservoir, or production. I have two good friends that are both drilling engineers and love it to death but were away from their home office for a while on a rig.

Don't go to geology camp, i graduated in petroleum you won't need it. Just enjoy your last summer before college and take the geology classes with all the normal people. Make sure when you get into the department you get the scholarship, they pay everybody with above a 3.0 $1000 per either year or semester just for majoring in petroleum.

re: LSU Petroleum Engineering
what other scholarships are there without going to the camp?

saderade-define "balling"

Also this field is said to be infamous for its lack of job security. Should this be something that I should really be concerned with? How would I ensure more job security in my choice of majoring in PETE??

Dude, I think you need to think about what you really want to do after school. That's a wide range of interests.

If you play your cards right, you can get tons of free meals while being a PETE major.

Going to the GEOL camp really isn't going to put you far ahead...

PETE is more than likely what im going with. Those were just all the other possibilities. Just trying to get some input on different programs.
