I sat behind the LSU bench, 50 yardline, row 3, for the AL game (not great for seeing the game action, but interesting to watch the players/coaches on the sideline).

I can't remember one single sideline interaction between Lee and the receivers. In fact, I can't remember him having communication with any other player while on the sideline. I just don't see leadership qualities in him. I believe he fought like hell, but doesn't seem to have the "it" like Flynn, Davie, Mauck, H. Tyler, etc. Am I the only one that noticed this?

We also noticed that he spent a lot of time standing on the sidelines by himself with no headset communicating with the O-coordinator. We thought that was rather odd.

I think it's because he's a freshmen. Can you imagine trying to lead guys 2 and 3 years older than you, who will be high draft picks in the NFL, while being a 19-yr old newb??

And you also never see any emotion out of him when he throws an int.

Very interesting. He should have a headset to talk to the coaches in the pressbox to explain what he is seeing out of the defense.

when you are fighting to keep your own head above water, it's impossible to save another.

Maybe the upper classmen recievers could step up and spare the guy some of this leadership pressure? Anyway, I think that having Hatch there, involved in the game was a HUGE help to Lee before he was injured. I think now he feels more and more alone and he is floundering, but he's doing all he can to hold himself together right now.

Really?

He was on the phone after every drive, including the time before overtime.

He's also patted Chris Mitchell and Mitch Joseph on the helmet for dropping passes the last 2 weeks.

Now I will say that Byrd doesn't appear to like him and Lafell looks to not be expecting the ball when it's thrown, but that's due to Lee having most confidence in him.

He's the only first time starter out there at a skill position. Barksdale is the only other new player, and I don't think RT's can make near as many visible mistakes as QB. He shouldn't be the leader of this team, one of the other guys with 20+ starts should be.

Would you rather see him smiling while walking off the field like Aaron Brooks?

Or would you rather see him cating a temper tantrum.

FWIW, Matt Flynn didnt have any 'interaction' with the WR's on the sidelines when he was a freshman either...

or:

Actually, Jarrett Lee is having much more 'interaction' than Matt Flynn ever had when he was a freshman.

Yes, also, only saw him pick up the phone for the pressbox once after the pick-6. Also, to your point, it would be nice if Lafell and Byrd would show some leadership as well and pick him up, and, oh yes, catch the freaking ball.

I love all of these guys but this team lacks leadership overall. You can't underestimate senior leadership and I definitely took it for granted last year (Steltz, Dorsey, Flynn, Hester).

When he threw one of his interceptions, he went straight to the receivers and looked like he was apologizing. I think had lots of communication, he was talking to Miles the entire time right before the start of the second half instead of warming up.

Well hell you go from one extreme to the other. Would you rather be under a bridge sleeping or the richest man in the world?

No seriously, I'd rather see him be pissed off at himself and show a little bit of fire than the "oh well, I just threw another int" look.

Okay, I would be very disappointed if Lee wasn't communicating with "the wiz" during this game....

was he on the phone or not???

Yea I saw this too. He went out of his way to tell guys to shake it off when they dropped passes.

His demeanor reminds me a lot of Jamarcus' when he was a RS fr in '04. He wasn't much of a leader and seemed unsure of how to react to the older players.

Agree 100%. Leadership might be the single most important trait of a great football team.

Not having a veteran qb has cost Byrd millions.

That's one reasn why JJ needs to get a few downs. Give JL a short time to get his head together.
The other reason, next year. I don't want Lee, a freshman or another redshirt with no experience.

Good point, I think Lee could've used Hatch's support on the sidelines. I guess he's just sitting in the stands?
