I know I am not the only guy that has watched pretty much every LSU game the last two years and continue to be perplexed at how 1) McCray is continuously put into situations where he can't be succesful (covering wideouts in space)and 2) There have been no consistent adjustments to scheme, at least that I can see, that would hide some of these personnel weaknesses.

My question is do you think it's time for a personnel change or scheme change? If there is not anyone that can cover a slot in space, then by God we better start playing more zone to cover these guys up. Can you imagine the field day Florida will have if they can find a way to match Harvin up with McCray? Oh dear God.

Mccray isn't the only member messing up. The coaches have to do a better job of getting the plays in and matching up appropriate personnel with scheme

I agree. I wasn't pointing out just McCray. He was more of an example of my point about personnel vs. scheme. But, do you not see a trend that ANYTIME an opponent needs a BIG play that go after McCray?

I think that we are witnessing a period in college football where a new offensive scheme is taken advantage of defenses, much like the wishbone was successful in the late 70's and early 80's.

The spread is just taking advantage of defensive personnel, but you will see defenses begin to figure it out and get better at defended it.

LSU's point production under Crowton is a great example of constantly throwing new stuff at defenses.

Well, spread offenses have been around for awhile now. Maybe it's a recruiting problem. Maybe we should recruit more pure DB's and less hybrid players like McCray??? This is at the heart of my question. To me, it's more about players than coaches. As talented as we are, some of our hybrid guys that we have recruited simply can not cover SEC-caliber wideouts.

As for as the "Sideline being the root of the problem" discussion. I don't buy that entirely. We had this problem last year, but had better personnel so it wasn't as glaring. There wasn't an issue about play calling or getting substitutions in then.
