I have a 1998 Yamaha 40hp outboard and the trim is suddenly not working. I was going to try to change to solenoid, but thought i would check here first. When I try to trim, I just get a clicking noise. Does anybody have any ideas on what I should try?
TIA

Charge battery.
Try jumping solenoid. If it works by jumping it then solenoid is bad obviously. If not it is probably trim motor.
My buddy had a 70 and when it sat for a few weeks the motor would stick and just click. We would tap it on the housing with the handle of a screw driver and it would start working again.

Battery is a little low, but was still turning the motor. Charging it now

Make sure you have a good connection, some times your screws will back off your battery. I had a problem with a trim on a Yamaha one time that I fixed by slightly unscrewing the trim fluid cap and releasing some air.

Sounds simple but this happens all the time to people and has almost ruined a trip or two for me.

If battery was turning motor then it has plenty to run trim. Could be connection on solenoid though or fluid like he said. Forgot about that one
