Im not sure that this has not been discussed on here before or not, however i have come up with a perplexing predicament regarding ccw and fighting. i know that EVERYTHING should be done in order to de-escalate and diffuse problems while carrying. Personally, im not much of a fighter. I tend to have a laid back attiude and generally do not have problems in this area. however, there are times when fighting is inevitable.
what would you do, while legally carrying, if a situation occured and resolution via "walking away" seemed impossible and fisticuffs were bound to occur? I have thought this over very carefully and have pretty much came to the conclusion that it is a damned if you do, damned if you dont kind of thing. Also, i know that the attacker/aggresser's size, shape, etc plays a large role here, so hypothetically let's just say that the two of you mirror each other in size. I am not planning on pulling my gun unless i intend on firing. I am also not going to roll around throwing punches with my gun inside my waistband. i know that many smartass answers will follow this question, but i am bored and am trying to get a discussion going in hopes that someone, myself included, can be better prepared.
discuss...

Looking forward to reading the answers to this myself. If I had a friend with me I am sure I would just take out my CCW and hand it to him to hold until I got through.

I think if you made it aware to the aggressor that you had a gun, he might not want to continue with the fight

That would considered brandishing a firearm by some law enforcement and get you arrested and your CCL revoked.

Once you make a decision to carry, your outlook on these things has to change. There are no times where it will be ok for you to participate in the jawing and shite talking back and forth. You have to be able to ignore and walk away. If the person will not let you leave and you feel in danger, thats a different story.

The only time I've ever been in a fight was when I was out drinking. I wouldn't carry my concealed weapon if I'm going out drinking. So chances are, I will just duke it out, since my piece wouldn't be on me.

100% agree with this statement. without a doubt you assume responsabilities that go beyond justifying a homicide. Your patience and calmess in situations where you are not carrying have got to be controlled. I am not too prideful to walk away, or do whatever i can to leave the situation. in other words i do not care if im deemed a pussy or coward in the public's eye if that means i did not have to possibly fire on someone and run many risks such as stray bullets, being wrongfully accused, sitting in prison for a while, etc.
i just feel like there is a small chance that it could become a possibility and wanted some input.

This is the correct answer. If you are carrying, the only way you fight is for your life. If you are attacked, you just happen to be very well prepared for that contingency. If you are getting verbally abused, tough shite. Leave.

true, but there is a fine line between getting psyically attacked and having your life threatened. i agree though on the verbal bs.

Just tell them you got a gun on you. You don't have to take it out or show it to them.

I know these are different circumstances but look at how well this situation has worked out for George Zimmerman.

You touched on the role that each of you play and that is crucial. You can't claim self defense if you are the aggressor. If he asks if you want to take it outside and you chirp back agree and both of you walk out there then you are both an aggressor.

However, lets say for example you try to diffuse the situation and walk outside to leave a little while later and he follows you out and takes a swing. If he hits you hard enough to disorient you and you have the fear of death or great bodily harm because you are about to lose conciseness then you can draw. Just because you are in a fight doesn't mean you are an aggressor. If you think you might have to draw you better make damn sure you visibly remove yourself from the argument so that you can claim self defense if you need to. This will probably resolve the situation anyways. At some point I decided fighting was for the birds and although it does have to happen now and again I'm not trying to fix another broken hand or try to rip 4 guys off of 1 of my knocked out buddies anymore

He should have just shot a white guy and this wouldn't have been a problem.

If its just one guy.........I'd probably go ahead and throw bows.....

Assuming I didn't think he was gonna pull out a piece and blow my brains out.

It all goes back to feeling as if your life is about the be threatened.
