Would you take this boat offshore to closer in rigs on a decent day?

And a follow up do you think it would be good for bay/inland fishing?

It's a 23'clearwater for those that don't want to click on craigslist link.

LINK

I'm early in my search, but looking for something that I can fish for reds and specks with inland, and have the opportunity to catch snapper on a good day too. It has a 9 1/2 ft beam which seems pretty wide for a 23' boat.

If not let me know if such a boat exists. I am looking to keep budget at or under 30K. I don't want two boats though I'd rather have one more versatile rig. I know people run to rigs in smaller boats so it can for sure be done. I guess my bigger question is if the draft is too much for inland, bc thats the majority of my fishing. Can't find much info on them online.
TIA

It's not going to be the greatest in shallow water but it should do perfectly well offshore

Yes.

Depends on what bays you are going to be fishing.

Get a center console with a cat hull, that would handle bigger waves and have a shallower draft for inshore. The boat on the link would have a tough time in slot of inshore spots due to draft....IMHO

Just an FYI. You won't be able to put a conventional troll motor on that boat. Not sure if you were planning to.

It is certainly capable boat to run out to the close rigs on good weather days. I wouldn't hesitate to run 30 miles out on good days with twin motors.

Seems more of a big water than bay boat. Looks like a nice rig though.

The 2300 WI is exact boat I'd like to have in a few years. Basic design and no frills boat but I've never had a fish ask to be thrown back in cause I have a basic boat. As others have said, it would work for anchoring in bays and beach around grand Isle but not so much inshore.

Thanks everyone, most of my inshore fishing would be out of grand isle. I feel like it would work good on the backside of island, but probably not go up into leeville marsh area with it. I do have a really small boat for that though but it only fits 2 people really. and for summer speck fishing I want to take more than two people usually

I'd take that over a lot of other boats people take out there. If you don't fish deep in the marsh, it's probably an all around good boat for most.

It's got twins so go ahead and run it out there. Thats more of a go offshore mostly and catch stuff inland sometimes when the weathers bad rig rather than the other way around though.

I would fish that boat as far offshore as the fuel tank would take me with all proper safety equipment on board. I think you would be better suited in a bay boat for what you say you fish mostly. We fish our HS 23 Bay Bolt up to 50 miles offshore on the right days and then fish it in 14" of water the next day. IMO it's as ideal as a boat gets for my purposes, I had a 30' Pursuit prior to this boat and would much rather have the bay boat.

Will look into hydrasport baybolt, Thanks. I read this particular model drafts 19-21". What does your baybolt draft?

If you mainly fish inshore, that's not the boat for you. A big bay boat in the 21-24' range can do what you want. I know plenty of guys who run 22' bay boats to the close in rigs out of GI/Fourchon to catch snapper after fishing the islands for specks in the morning.

My rule with a boat is to buy it for what you do most of the time and then figure out how to make it work for the stuff you do some of the time. Don't try to buy a boat that can do everything if it means sacrificing being optimal for what you will do in it 90% of the time.

If you like to anchor and fish, fish the beaches and passes, run the Gulf period, that's the boat. You like to run skinny water or get on trolling motor, that's not what you're looking for, IMO. There's not a perfect boat made to fish LA. We're blessed with too many options.

I'd fish in it, but it does not have much deadrise at the stern. It will not ride better than any of the mid to upper name 24 foot bay boats.

Boat shopping is harder than I thought. Too many options to consider. All good pints here though and thanks again for info. Someone mentioned a cat hull earlier, do they draft significantly less? Good for offshore? I saw one listed in Pensacola. 22 ft. Twin vee with twin yamahas on the back.

And this boat is a 22'angler, no doubt perfect for bay fishing. But wonder about how it would handle offshore. Plus it has one motor which makes me hesitant to go offshore with it. I like a back up plan.

You really have to answer one main question which someone else already pointed out. What type of fishing do you mainly plan to do? Inshore bays and marshes or offshore?

Answer this and it will make your boat shopping easier. People with a lot bigger budgets than yours have tried to get a do it all boat only to find out that it's not a very realistic goal without spending six figure $$$. Your options are either gonna be a 23-24 ft bay boat or a same size center console.

I've been looking for a good "all around" boat too...nothing I'll be getting in the immediate future but wanted to go ahead and get the browsing process started.

I keep coming back to the Robalo R180 and R200. They just look like comfortable fishing machines. There's plenty of videos on YouTube and testimonies in hull truth of guys going out 30-40 miles in those 18' Robalos, from the pacific, Gulf, and Atlantic.

I think people tend to underestimate any boats "offshore" capabilities. In 1-2 seas you can take a kayak out there. In 3-4's you need a dedicated offshore vessel, and without one shouldn't venture out there when the seas are like that. So if you're only going offshore when it's smart to go offshore, then there are tons of boats that can do that and still perform well in the marsh.
