I haven't made the offer, yet, but I'm considering it.

Last Christmas, I became an owner of a stainless S&W 686-4 with a 6" barrel.

A buddy of mine just got a Remington 1911 R1.

He's been begging and begging and begging for my S&W. Mainly because he has a S&W 586 (blued version) and he likes the idea of having both models.

I'm thinking since he wants mine so bad, I can offer him an even trade. And I'd be more likely to use the 1911 than the S&W anyway. I've always wanted a 6" .357, but I'd prefer to have a Colt Pyton mainly because I'm a big Walking Dead fan.

How decent of a deal is this?

Brand new both are about the same price wise so it comes down to condition, preference and opinion. Personally I would rather have the S&W.

Wait, what?

You want to trade a S&W 686 for a Remington even?

Are you kidding?

That's an awesome deal, maybe the deal of the century

For your buddy.

That was my first reaction also, but looking up prices, I was surprised to see them about equal.

Why? A quick gunbroker search says they are both about the same price.

If you like the 1911 more, make the trade. Doesn't look like you're really losing or gaining anything.

Sounds like you should sell it and buy a colt though.

Prices might be but quality sure isn't.

i wouldn't get near the amount for a colt though. a python is 2-3x more than that.

Hell to the No.

keep the Revolver even if you don't love it, they are classics. Save for a Ruger SR1911 if you want a cheap high quality 1911.

Other than a Nylon 66, there are very few Remington firearms that I'd want to own. There are many other choices that afford greater reliability.

The same is pretty much true for their .22 ammo.

I know you people are mad at Remington and all, but the reviews I've seen on this one are very positive. Had they made a Commander in 9, I would have probably bought it over the Ruger.

I would, but the only revolvers I care about are way out of my price range.

At least the 1911 would get used.

Ask him for the 1911 and $100 if he wants the revolver so bad. Otherwise, I'd pass.

I would trade, the guns are about the same value. Not like you are trading a pre-lock Smith or anything particularly special. It's like of someone wanted to trade me for my Ruger GP100 MC, it's a gun I can always buy again unlike my 1977 DW 15-2VH.

But are they? Price tag doesn't necessarily mean value.
I'd imagine if you listed them both for sale for the same price you would get way more offers on the S&W than the R1. If the OP has his sights set on an auto loader I bet he could get numerous offers on a trade for that S&W and get something closer to what he wants. Offer that R1 to trade for something else and it's going to collect dust.

Exactly. The 1911 is worth way more.
