Would you be for or against a Toledo slot limit?

I wouldn't want anything as extreme as Forks slot but I would love to see a 20"-24" (pretty much 4-1/2lb to 9-1/2) *unless fish went 10+* slot limit on Toledo. Fish had to be returned to waters but could be weighed and released same day (for tourneys). I saw a couple of guys fillet a 7lb female full of eggs at fin and feather this weekend and it made my skin crawl. I literally grew up on that lake, I don't think it can be overfished, I believe fish were made to be eaten and I've taken 1000's of fish out of Toledo over my life but I don't see any reason anyone should ever keep a 7 unless a kid wants to mount it. I want my son to be able to chase toads in Toledo some day and we need to protect the fish on their way to being studs.

Thoughts?

I think a slot is intended to improve the overall quality of fish...why would toledo need that right now? i'd say whatever they've been doing the last 10 years has been working...keep it that way.

The drought a few years back is why the fish are so big now. A slot limit would require people to not drag future linkers out of the water.

I don't ever keep bass so I wouldn't care one way or the other.

It would be nice to protect 18-22" fish.

Well make up your mind. Are we gonna eat them or let em all go?

Is there that big of a difference in a 7lb with eggs and a 2 pounder with eggs? (Serious question, I dont know.) Even if it was 2x the amount of eggs, or 4x, there are still 100 to 1 ratio of 1 pounders to 7 pounders.

Not killing a 7 pounder just because it is a seven pounder would be my reasoning.

Maybe 20-24 or 20-22. Basically protect fish 5-9 lbs

Absolutely. A 7lber is 2 years away form being a 10 pounders where as a 2 may be 5 or so years way. Toledo has more than enough 2 LBers. There's no logic in taking fish out of the lake that are that close to being a lifetime trophy. Toledo bend has become the best lake in the country, I just believe that we should set up a conservation effort to make sure it remains that way.

This is a completely different situation but I bet the LDWF wishes they would have put a slot limit on Lake Cat a few years back.

I would 100% be in favor of a slot. There is a guy from my hometown that fishes there a lot at night and is always posting pictures of 6-9 pounders dead in an ice chest. He filets everything. I know for a fact he put the knife to two 9 pounders last year. Pisses me off, but it's still legal.

I do know. You told us that you believe bass are here to eat

But you get mad when someone is fileting a bass to eat.

This is exactly why there should be a slot. There are a ton of people out there that don't realize that if you keep pulling 8 pounders out of one body of water that, that body water will eventually decrease in quality of fish produced.

Basically we need to dummy proof a conservation effort because guys like "Ron Cheramie" can't distinguish the difference in pulling in a 1.5lb buck and a 8.5 female full of eggs.

They should only let you keep one 10 pounder per year. I usually catch 20-30 ten pounders a year and would be more than happy to start throwing all but one back.

Then throw them back. Just because they let you keep them doesn't mean you have to.

That was a joke. I normally throw most fish back regardless of species. Anything huge goes back in the water and I only need a couple of fish to eat fresh, and I prefer small fish over old large ones. Tuna is my only exception.
