Would an I/O runabout Ski and Fish work in bays?

Here is my line of thinking on buying a new boat. I've always enjoying cruising/ski'ing and hanging out at the sand bars in Lake Maurepas. I also like to fish, but I'm not hardcore about it. My old Bayliner is on its last legs and I was thinking of buyer another similar inboard/outboard runabout, but in the ski/fish combo - it basically has an extra battery, rod holders, livewell and removable trolling motor. For a little fishing (6-12 trips a year) it'll work fine in rivers and trolling for trout in ponchartrain, but it will draft about 24 inches. Are most of the bays for red fish going to be too shallow for this to be a legit trip I could do a few times a year? I know a good bay boat drafts around 12 inches. Thanks for any input.

For a couple trips a year I think you should be able to get away with it. Will just need to plan ahead of time and be careful where you go!

It works good but not great, better in the bays and in the surf than in the marsh where it can get real shallow. We used a 20' Glastron bow rider for fishing for years before the FIL got a bay boat.

They make fish/ski boats with outboards. Just my opinion but I have always heard I/O is no bueno for salt water.

24" is a bit much to get in most redfish ponds, but you can always find somewhere to fish them. Get a boat for what you do the most.

Don't buy a fish and ski. It sucks at both. Buy a bay boat with some cushions and a stereo. I'd do a deeper v so it's comfortable, but seriously fish and skis are and have always been horrible. Do more research.

If you like that style of boat for 80% of your boating, you will be fine.
But a bayboat with jumpseats, console seats, pedestal seats, cushions, a top and stereo is very versatile and can be good for cruising/skiing. Shop around.

100% this. Get a bay boat and pimp it out to where you can do the extra ciricular shite out of it besides fish.
