World record fish...keep or release?

This article was in my home state Minneapolis StarTribune newspaper today. A guy caught a muskie which very well could have been a world record. The only problem, is that he released it instead of getting it weighed on a certified scale.
A friend of mine who fishes muskies a lot says he would release a fish like that because it's a thrill to see it swim away. He said most muskie fisherman would do the same. If it were me, I'd look at it as a fish of a lifetime and get it weighed and mounted. What would the OB do?

If I could legally document it I'd do it and then release yes, if I couldn't, I'd lean toward releasing it. Just me, no hate needed. I fish for me, not records.

Release. No questions asked. If it's so important to have it on your wall, take some measurements and have a mount made.

If he had mustad hooks on that stick bait he just let go a million dollars

I wouldn't be set on having it on my wall, I'd just like to be recognized as a world record holder. I'd probably sell the fish to someone like Cabela's so that many people could see it. Not sure however.

Why wouldn't you release it?

Take pics, measure, weigh, release, then get replica made. Most replicas look so good these days, no need to keep the fish.
