Any OB'ers know anything about a good reasonably priced lathe. I don't know much about them, but I'm looking to get into making hand made duck calls for fun.

I have made a few duck calls on a turning lathe. The turning lathe part is the easy part making the tone board is a sum bitch.

I've got the whole insert part handled, I am just wanting to make the main barrels for a few of them.

Most of the duck call makers I know use Jet lathes...

If the largest thing you want to make is duck calls and you are in the Baton Rouge area, I'd look into this vintage Craftsman metal lathe that is in this ad.

I have a Jet Midi lathe that I really like.

If you aren't turning the insert what type of call are you making? I turn the insert on the ones I've made and cut them in a jig. Mine are AR style single reeds.

I'm going to get some echo double reed inserts to put in the barrels.

How do you seal your calls? What wood do you use?

The one that I made that I use (I haven't made very many) I put poly urethane on it. IT IS NOT IDEAL. That's something else that I need to do some research on.

I made it out or Bois D'Arc and when I use it alot it will really swell.
