Wood Ducks

Have y'all been having a ridiculous amount of wood ducks this year. My property is mostly oak woods and we have small canal runs through it kind of like a ditch that acorns drop into, really big crop this year. I can always sit on the canal and get a limit but this year they are flying from our one little crawfish pond and neighbors ponds by the thousands each morning. They roost on our property and fly back into atchafalaya basin in the morning. I have been going with my 5 and 7 year old and standing in an open pasture without even hiding and getting a limit every time I go. I usually mostly deer hunt but this year I can get a limit so easy I am doing a little more duck hunting I even got time to go get in deer stand after. In 5 trips I have 5 limits of woodies took me 5 min,5 min, 7 min, 7 min an 10 minutes to get limit. Been unreal.

Enjoy it while it last...they'll get a clue and either switch flight patterns or leave that area to roost in another if you hunt them too hard.
They're an absolute plast though. Sometimes, it'll take me damn near a box of shells to get a limit they way they fly.

Drought means more wherever you have water plus oaks, but I have seen them land on dry land for water oaks before

I been getting them since opening day but only once a week or once every other week so they haven't spooked yet. And yeah they are good to eat I cooked 6 of them in a black iron pot for thanksgiving. Going to stuff and grill the next batch. I usually pick the warm mornings I don't feel like sitting in the deer stand.
