I had seen this video before, and was wondering what the snake was. Body looked like an Indigo Snake, but the color was all wrong. Glad that video says what it is (Yellow-tailed Cribo), and it is in the same genus as Indigo Snakes - or I guess it is a subspecies according to WikiPedia.

Yeah and no!! As fast as she went towards it, I would have gone away from it!!

It kinda had that Australian big/fast/deadly look to it so my lizard brain just kept saying, nope nope nope.

Texas Indigo looks similar minus the yellow tail. They don't have the solid black look.
Reminds me of a 6'4" rat snake I caught when I was around 12 or 13. I literally dove on that sumbitch and he bit the crap out of me. When I was a kid the ONLY concern was not losing the snake. As you get older you become more selective in your catches - and it's not so much the bote you're worried about - it's more about not letting them shite (or musk) all over you.

Unfortunately, the majority of the OB sounds like the girl filming that.

It's amazing the pride that the OB takes in being afraid of something that's usually harmless.

I'd love to find any of the Drymarchon in the wild. My favorite snakes.
For anyone interested enough to watch an hour long presentation on this genus.

Yeah, the snake in the video looked like an indigo to me. Some of you guys haven't seen a herpetologists in action. GOT TO BE FAST! Yellow Tail Cribo is a new one for me. Guess I have some catching up to do. I started reading Raymond Dithers when I was a kid. And thanks Teague for the John Michaels link.

Ditmars was my bible when I was a kid. Back in the '70s my uncle gave us a copy from around the 1930s. We wore that book out.

Not being afraid of harmless snakes makes me strange? I think you have it backwards.

only being concerned with them getting away from you makes you strange. did you catch them for a living?

When you were a 12 yr. old in the '70s, $20 for a King or Rat snake was a pretty serious haul.
