Works out to about 6.5 years per motor....

Thanks for scaring me with my Merc. Its a 05 Opitimax. Got around 100 hours on it, I guess I didn't run it enough to have problems.

It runs pretty good.

Yep. My merc performs because it gets used 2-3 times a month, every month.

I think the 1st gen Verado's had the most problems. They hash this out in detail over on The Hull Truth and there is a Verado owner's forum somewhere that helps dispell rumors.

Good informative reading when you have the time.

Apparently it wasn't too lame. Mercuries do have the prettiest cowlings, though. You have that going for you.

No shite, I bought it in 2005, Katrina came, then Wife got ill, passed away then the oil spill came along. Trying to get back up to speed.

I have never had much trouble with mercury outboards. My grand pa and dad would only use them. Only other outboard i have owned was a tohatsu and that damn thing was near indestructible.
