Whole House Water Filtration

My town has water that contains chlorine that seems to be on the level of a public swimming pool. It destroys the innards of toilets and dishwashers. I filter everything I drink because when you lift a glass of the stuff out of the tap toward your nose, it smells exactly like swimming pool water.
I am moving to a new house in the next couple of weeks and am thinking about putting a whole house water filtration system in it. Has anyone done this? Does anyone have any recommendations?

I am going to do it at my house when I get some time. Was going to get a big blue filter for large particulates, followed by a Fleck or Clack (Proline) meter/valve set with GAC (carbon) in one canister and a softener in the other.
A company called Quality Water For Less has everything you need, including installation kits if you don't like messing with copper tubing. Remember to size it for your demand

I installed systems for rainsoft many years ago,and that stuff was super expensive, hopefully,it's not so bad now.
But dont listen to me, I will still drink out of my cupped hands,at the outside hydrant,if I am thirsty working in the garden.

I had it installed a few months ago and couldn't be happier. I wish I had done it sooner. The link describes the type of system I bought.

I've used 3m Aqua Pure AP903 filtration system on city water service and have had great results. $250 plus installation if you don't do it yourself (I didn't). New replacement filter annually for $125. Done

That's the one I'm looking at, but with a pre-filter. Good to know.
