i was thinking about taking the family out and spend a day on the lake for a boat ride with the new boat. i have heard a lot about False River. we going to be tubing and skiing and maybe a liltle fishing. we going to have kids on board so their safety is our concerned. oh and i live in baton rouge. please give me some advice. thanks

FR would be the best in decent driving distance. It is nice during the weekdays

Old River is another option that isn't too much further. Very few people and pretty decent perch jerking.

Go to False River. I've been out there during the week and weekends every week for the past several months. I guarantee you there is almost no one out there. It used to be crowded, but you will more than likely have the lake to yourself.

Concordia has good fishing and barely any boat traffic

The Maurepas, Amite/Diversion has lots of water ways. Some has heavy boat traffic and other areas are great for tubing and skiing. If you are looking to go in the next couple of weeks, skip this area, the water is high (waterways are probably closed) due to Lee.
FYI- The end of year lake bash has been canceled for this weekend due to high water...

lake verrete has some canals that are untouched and are great for skiing, no boat traffic. look around 4 mile bayou.

We always go out to Henderson. Not to much boat traffic.

I really like sections of the Amite to ski. Usually I ride laps between Galveztown landing and Freds. Most boat traffic heads to diversion/Maurepas.

My neighbor and I were talking the other day about the dangers of the Diversion and tubers. We think it is more of inexperienced or unknowledgeable boaters that don’t know that there is lots of water around us to tube safely. The Diversion on the weekend in the summer is not the place, but a couple of miles away are perfect. I can sit on my porch and see multiple boats pulling small kids in tubes. If a kid falls off in rough waters other boaters might not see the kid floating. It is a very dangerous situation.
We discussed maps at the landings showing good locations to tube/ski and perhaps pamphlets as well…
