Looking at 5 in units. $300-$500 budget. The raymarine dragonfly looks nice.

Can't go wrong with Lowrance. Before you buy brand new go look at Bass Boat Central they always have a ton of stuff for sale under electronics.

with electronics i would definitely get it where you can get a warranty. and to be honest there are better units than lowrance out there but their mapping options for south la is hands down the best.

Not sure if they still have it but I got a Garmin Echomap 7dv at bass pro for 450 2 months ago. The new version with chirp came out and they were getting rid of the old one. I downloaded a QuickDraw feature on their website for free and it draws and saves countours on your unit. I love the down imaging. I'd take it over my previous lowrances for sure.

My friend installed a dragonfly 7 unit last year, fishes probably 3-4 times a month. No issues great unit!! Very impressed with the sonar for such a small unit. He uses it mainly river/creek fishing, redfish, trout, and flounder.

I have the Dragonfly.....simplest to use that I've had. No issues in 6 months. Like it.

If you plan on fishing in South Louisiana she have to consider any of the Lowrance units that are compatible with the ECards from Standard Mapping. Got a Lowrance 5 Elite several months ago and the ECard for Southeast Louisiana and could not be more pleased. The accuracy is pretty phenomenal.

Bought the hook 7. Couldn't pass up the price. And it had a rebate for some sort of coastal map card.
