Where's the closest place from Lafayette to throw a castnet?

Just moved to the south side of Lafayette, and wondering what's the closest place to go catch some shrimp and maybe put out a couple crab lines. I've always gone down to Rockefeller, but that's more of a day trip.

Just wondering if there is something decent within the 30-45 minute range. Thanks in advance.

This/Pecan Island, although it's a little further.

Cypremort Point is notoriously fickle. Too much coffee grinds in the water.

Joseph's Harbor is farther than Pecan Island. This dude wants close. I'd recommend the ditch behind the school in Broussard. Give us a report.

You talking about Grenovillier's Swamp behind St. Cecilia?

I spent many hours under the train trestle over that 'ditch' in my youth.
