SO wants some on both sides of sidewalk leading to our front porch and I looked on Lowe's site but the reviews said all of those had plastic posts that were extremely cheap and easy to snap

Disclaimer: I know almost nothing about path lights and have never messed with any before but assume they are pretty straight forward

TIA

My only advice is use 12V and avoid the solar lights all together, the solar lights are usually junk and you will be replacing them.

You know what they say about assuming right?

Initial installation yes, nothing to it, but once it gets some moisture and bury the lines, the gremlins find a home between the power source and the end of the line of the light string.

There is a Ewing sprinkler supply storm ear me that carries higher end lights. Commercial type stuff. Be prepared to pay upwards of $50 per light

This a 100 times over.

Just about any of the landscape lights are going to have plastic stakes, yes they break, but its an easy fix. and BTW, even the metal ones have plastic connectors and that's where they break.

If you want them to last, solder the connections and cover with liquid electrical tape. they will be good for years, or until you cut a wire digging in the flower bed. Use led bulbs and put a little dielectric grease on the contacts to prevent corrosion.

I have a cheap Home Depot Malibu brand set in my back yard that's 9 or 10 years old and still works just fine.
